The contact lens () for augmented reality comprises: a transparent body () designed to be placed on an eye (); and at least one augmented reality module comprising an optical source () attached to the transparent body () and designed to emit a light into the transparent body, and an optical element () attached to the transparent body () and designed to receive the light from the optical source () and send it in the direction of the eye (). An assembly comprising a complex transparency device, i.e. a refractive and/or diffractive device acting on the light phase, and at least one array of micro-images, wherein: the complex transparency device comprises a periodical two-dimensional array formed from individual 'pupils,' wherein each pupil comprises a micro-optical device, at least some of the micro-optical devices having a non-centered optical axis, and at least some of the micro-optical devices positioned non-periodically with variable off-setting of the optical axis thereof with the array; the array of micro-images comprising as many micro-images as micro-optical devices; each micro-image has a contour identical to that of the associated pupil and a surface which is at the most identical to that of the associate pupil; and each micro-image is sub-divided into at least one thumbnail image such that when the transparency device is positioned facing the array of micro-images, and an observer observes the array through the transparency device, the observer sees, at least in a given direction of observation, an image which is reconstructed by the combination of the thumbnail images associated with the direction, wherein within the same subdivision, certain thumbnail images, form 'firsts group' and are distributed such that when the transparency device is positioned facing the array of micro-images, the thumb-nail images are respectively arranged according to the optical axis of the associated micro-optical device.

An optical shuttering device is provided, which includes an optical cell with a liquid crystal material between first and second transparent substrates and controlled by an electronic switching circuit. The switching circuit includes a power supply module, providing a control voltage, and a switching element mounted in series between the power supply module and the cell, making it possible to switch the cell between an on state and an off state. The electronic switching circuit furthermore includes a current source mounted in series between the power supply module and the switching element. The substrates preferably have different thickness and material.

Liquid crystal spectacles are provided for three-dimensional viewing of digital video content from a projector. The viewing spectacles include a first rectilinear polariser and a second rectilinear polariser respectively having polarisation axes Pand P, the polarisation axes Pand Pbeing parallel or perpendicular relative to each other. Furthermore, the liquid crystal has an adapted intrinsic tilt angle and is used in a half-wave blade configuration. The liquid crystal further includes first and second separate areas, each respectively located opposite a vision axis. The first area includes a first director and the second area includes a second director. The first and second directors are oriented so as to define an adapted angle between them. This enables a 'non-one-eyed' vision while waiting for the projection of the film to start, and to obtain the best possible contrast between the two eyes of the user when viewing the digital video content.

Spectacles for three-dimensional viewing of digital video content from a projector

A method is provided for manufacturing an electrooptic cell, which includes two plates of optically transparent material and at least one thickness of a composite gel based on a smectic liquid crystal and on a polymer provided between the plates, wherein the gel is in a smectic phase at ambient temperature. The method includes injecting a mixture of a ferroelectric and/or anti-ferroelectric smectic liquid and a monomer between the plates, wherein the monomer content of the mixture is between 5 and 25% by weight. The mixture is heated to above its smectic phase/nematic phase transmission temperature so that the mixture is in the nematic phase. The mixture is irradiated, by ultraviolet radiation, so as to polymerize the monomer and thus obtain the gel. During the irradiation step, an electric or magnetic field is applied to the mixture.

Method for manufacturing a PSFLC-based and/or PSAFLC-based electrooptic cell and corresponding electrooptic cell, device and helmet

The modulator is formed by a smectic chiral ferroelectric C* liquid crystal cell (CL), crossed by the light signal which is transmitted by the said fibre. The cell (CL) is provided with transparent walls and transparent command electrodes (5 to 7). The liquid crystal (CL), used in half-wave mode, is of the SSFLC (surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal) type, having a wide tile angle .theta., which is as close as possible to 45.degree., in such a way that the said modulator is insensitive to polarisation. The modulator may be connected to two parallel fibres (A2, A3; B2, B3), pertaining to the intermediary part of a Mach-Zehnder coupler between the two 3 dB couplers, and when it is provided in order to modulate the light signal transmitted by either one of the two fibres.

This device comprises two liquid crystal, electrically addressable spatial light modulators (M1, M2) on a semiconductor substrate and at least one polarizing beam splitter (2), the optical path between the modulators being equal to (2k+1) Z.sub.T /4.sup.n in which k and n are natural integers, n differing from zero, and Z.sub.T is the Talbot distance relative to a biperiodic hologram obtained by means of one of the modulators and at one of the periods equal to double the other, which makes it possible to obtain a reconfigurable hologram having four phase levels.
