Connection settings used by a mobile device to connect to a packet data network, e.g. the internet, are stored in a subscriber identity module (SIM) card. This enables connection settings to be pre-loaded on a SIM card, allowing a mobile device to immediately connect to the internet without manual configuration. The mobile device's connection settings may also be updated by a mobile network operator via an over the air profile update. For example, the operator may supply a device with connection settings the first time it connects to the network. Connection settings may be stored in one or more files within the SIM profile, and may be updated via a remote file management operation. Embedded-SIM (eSIM) profiles may also store connection settings in profile metadata, which may be updated via a metadata update operation.

This application describes client devices that control network transmission based on a power state. The client device determines a power state of the computing device and a priority of an application executing on the computing device. The client device determines whether to permit the application to communicate with a remote network accessible device via the network communication hardware based at least on the priority of the application and the power state of the computing device. Also described is a power state service that selects a client device to be provided with a notification based on power states of the client devices.

Power-aware network communication

A device analyzes text messages, email, and/or other data for the purposes of suppressing the display of sensitive content on a lock screen. For example, a device may prevent a lock screen from displaying a notification indicating the arrival of a message containing sensitive information. Alternatively, the device may filter any sensitive information from a notification indicating the arrival of a message. The techniques disclosed herein improve the security of a device by preventing the display of sensitive information on a lock screen, while also improving the usability of lock screen notifications by allowing other information to be displayed. The techniques disclosed herein also improve the security of other systems using the device as part of a multi-factor authentication process.

Intelligent lock screen notifications

A system manages a quality of service provided to an electronic device during a communication session in a network. A quality of service monitor of the electronic device detects satisfaction of a quality of service adjustment condition for changing the quality of service provided to the electronic device by the network. A quality of service manager of the electronic device requests an adjusted quality of service provided to the electronic device by the network. A communication interface of the electronic device communicates in a communication session at the adjusted quality of service provided to the electronic device by the network.

Responsive quality of service management

The disclosure herein describes receiving wireless signal strength data and detecting movement of a computing device relative to wireless access points based thereon. The computing device receives a signal strength data stream based on a wireless signal from a wireless access point. A signal strength range is determined based on the signal strength data stream during a learning time period while the computing device is within a defined area. The signal strength range indicates that the computing device is within the defined area associated with the wireless access point. During a detection time period, signal strength values outside of the signal strength range are detected and, based on the detected values, a notification is provided that indicates the computing device has moved outside the defined area. The described movement detection method provides rapid detection of movements of a computing device using already-obtained data that does not rely on interaction with other devices.

Detecting movement of a computing device based on wireless access point signal strength data and adaptive thresholds

Mobile devices are provisionally registered when the mobile device does not have an active subscription profile. A communications session is established with an access network of a mobile communications network. Identification data for the computing device is sent to the access network. A connectivity configuration is used to allow the computing device to establish a limited connection on the mobile communications network. Using the limited connection, an eSIM profile is received. The eSIM profile is activated and the device is connected to an associated mobile network.

Provisional device registration

Examples of the disclosure enable packet data access to be managed. In some examples, a device is coupled to a wireless network using a first access point name (APN). The wireless network includes a first packet data network (PDN) corresponding to the first APN and a second PDN. A request to couple the device to the wireless network using a second APN corresponding to the second PDN is received. When the device is configured to use a single PDN, a first instruction associated with decoupling the device from the wireless network is transmitted to the first PDN, and a second instruction associated with coupling the device to the wireless network using the second APN is transmitted to the second PDN. Aspects of the disclosure enable controlling or restricting packet data access to manage network resources.

This document describes various techniques for implementing local voicemail on a mobile device. These techniques may include enabling the mobile device to answer a voice call, record audio of the voice call to provide a voicemail file, and store the voicemail file to local computer-readable media. A locally stored voicemail file may be associated with relevant data, exposed via the associated data for local processing, and/or manipulated through a user interface of the mobile device.
