The invention relates to a bioreactor for a cell treatment of a medium. Said bioreactor comprises an element defining a chamber in which cells for treating the medium are located, a liquid permeable membrane separating the said chamber from a first channel in which flows the medium to be treated, and a gas permeable membrane separating the said chamber from a second channel in which flows a gas containing oxygen.

The present invention relates to infection resistant polyurethane having the infection resistant agents incorporated into the matrix of the thermoplastic polyurethane resin. This agent acts as a pool of infection resistant material. This infection resistant material can be used to make gloves and condoms.

Infection resistant thermoplastic polyurethane

The present invention relates to anti-viral materials. These anti-viral materials have a pool of anti-viral agents acting in cooperation with certain plasticizers to maintain and increase the anti-viral agents efficacy. These anti-viral materials may be used to make surgical gloves, condoms, surgical clothes, surgical operative fields, finger stalls, aprons, bibs and caps.

The present invention relates to infection resistant materials and or products made from a molten blend of at least one polymer and a compound having antioxidant, plasticizer and antiviral activity. Additionally, this compound has a hydrophilic lipophilic balance of between 12 and 20. The preferred polymer, polyvinyl chloride, is blended with the antioxidant, plasticizer, antiviral compound NONOXYNOL-9 (.alpha.-nonylphenyl-w-hydroxypoly(oxy-1, 2-ethanediyl) to form the infection resistant material.

A film structure for a steam sterilized container capable of containing a liquid to be maintained and removed under sterile conditions is provided. The film has at least two polyolefin layers, the outer layer having a greater density and softening temperature than the inner layer.

A port and closure for a container is provided. The closure includes an interface layer for bonding the closure to the port. The bond strength of the interface layer to the closure is less than the bond strength of the interface layer to the port. The closure being removed from the port by delaminating the interface layer from the port.

Disposable swab applicator

A sterile, closed drug delivery system (10) is provided comprising a flexible container (12), a capsule (22) coupled to the flexible container and a standard glass drug vial (36) positioned within the capsule. The flexible container has a liquid diluent therein. The capsule has supporting legs (32-35) which extend inwardly from the capsule to support the vial and also a highly flexible, pleated cap (28) which enables the drug vial to be manually moved relative to the supporting legs. The capsule is coupled to the flexible container by means of a hollow spike (54) located within the capsule and a frangible member (58) located within the flexible container, which frangible member allows fluid passage only when it is broken. Manual pressing of the pleated cap moves the drug vial downwardly onto the spike, piercing the stopper of the drug vial. Once the frangible member is broken, there is sterile communication between the drug vial and the liquid diluent contents of the flexible container.

Closed drug delivery system

There is disclosed herein a flow-through medical filter element which includes surface or depth filter media and a frame-like structure for supporting and positioning the media. The frame-like structure is a molded member which includes a ring-like inlet, a fluid-impervious terminal end spaced from the inlet and a plurality of rib-like members which extend between and interconnect the inlet end and terminal end. The inlet end includes internally-extending pleat-supporting projections and the terminal end has complementary externally-extending pleat-supporting shoulders. The frame-like structure is symmetrical about an axial plane which includes the mold parting line. The external shoulders are formed at angles which permits separation of a mold along the parting line and release of the part. The filter media also includes longitudinal pleats and is secured at its ends to the pleat-supporting projections associated with the inlet end and to the external pleat-supporting shoulders at the terminal end. Thus blood enters the filter element flows through the media and thereafter exits the filter element. This construction permits for a molding operation and provides a high surface area filter for use in existing units.

Low volume, large area filters for IV or blood filtration

A spike connector (10) of the type in which a hollowed spike (14) extending from the main body portion (12) of the spike connector is inserted into the stopper of a fluid source in order to convey the fluid from the source through the spike (14) and main body portion (12). The main body portion (12) includes a pair of wings (32, 34) which extend upwardly in the direction of the spike and outwardly therefrom, with the tops of the wings serving to space the remaining top of the main body portion (12) away from the fluid source stopper to prevent collection of the solution on the top of the main body portion. The undersides (36, 38) of the wings (32, 34) form a convenient finger grip. The tip portion (30) of the spike is relatively polished to enable easy insertion of the spike into the stopper.

Spike connector

A two piece roller clamp is disclosed for regulating the fluid flow rate through plastic tubing by defining the size of the tubing lumen. The clamp includes a U-shaped body with a base and two side walls and a longitudinally movable roller mounted in tracks formed in the side walls. The roller is biased against a roller bearing surface running along the length of the base. Adjacent to the roller bearing surface is a tube compression slot having a lower wall uniformly spaced below the roller. A channel of varying cross-section is provided in the lower wall of the tube compression slot. The roller exerts a uniform, but minimal force on the tubing compressing it against the lower wall of the slot permitting the formation of a lumen defined by the contours of the channel. The slot is dimensioned vertically to provide for the minimal compression force by the roller and is dimensioned horizontally to confine the entire compressed cross-section of tubing without excess space thereby conforming the tubing to the contours of the channel to regulate the lumen size. A uniform compression force is maintained during longitudinal movement of the roller by the roller bearing surfaces which prevent perpendicular movement of the roller towards the slot.

An airway connector is provided for withdrawing solutions from bottles and comprises a spike having a solution flow passage and an air inlet passage, with both passages opening at the tip of the spike. The spike carries a body member having a filter chamber extending radially outwardly from the spike and being positioned eccentrically with respect to the axis of the spike. The body member defines a portion of the air inlet passage with the air inlet passage portion extending angularly through the body member to communicate with the filter chamber. A hydrophobic filter is located in the filter chamber with the filter having a smaller volume than the volume of the filter chamber to provide an air space communicating with the air inlet passage.
