A turbocharger wastegate assembly includes a turbine housing that includes a chamber and a bore where the bore includes a bore diameter; a bushing that includes a bushing bore, an exterior end, an interior end, a bushing bore diameter, an exterior surface diameter; and a monoblock wastegate that includes a shaft, a shoulder, an arm and a plug, where the shaft includes a shaft diameter that is less than the bushing bore diameter, where the shoulder includes a diameter that is greater than the bushing bore diameter and where, in an assembled state, the interior end of the bushing is disposed in the chamber and the exterior end of the bushing is disposed in an exterior space and where the interior end of the bushing and the shoulder of the monoblock wastegate contact to limit axial movement of the monoblock wastegate.

Turbine wastegate

An assembly can include a wastegate with a wastegate arm and a plug portion positionable in a closed operational state and in open operational states and a turbine housing component that includes a wall extending axially away from a wastegate seat to establish a relationship for exhaust flow from a wastegate opening to an exhaust chamber with respect to the open operational states of the wastegate. A turbocharger system is disclosed, including a turbine and compressor and a rotary valve unit. The rotary valve unit comprises a fixed valve seat and a rotary valve member arranged coaxially with the valve seat. The valve member is disposed against the valve seat and is rotatable about the axis for selectively varying a degree of alignment between respective orifices in the valve seat and valve member. The valve unit includes a valve housing that defines a first flow passage and a second flow passage, and the valve member and valve seat are disposed in the second flow passage. A turbocharger system is also disclosed, including a turbine and compressor and the rotary valve unit. The rotary valve unit is coupled with the turbine such that exhaust gas that has passed through the turbine wheel is fed into the first flow passage of the rotary valve unit, and exhaust gas that has bypassed the turbine wheel is fed into the second flow passage of the rotary valve unit.

A turbine housing includes a bore, a wastegate seat and a wastegate passage; a bushing disposed at least in part in the bore; a rotatable wastegate shaft that includes a shoulder and a control end; a control arm operatively coupled to the wastegate shaft where the bushing is disposed between a surface of the control arm and the shoulder; a wastegate arm that extends from the wastegate shaft where the shoulder is disposed between the wastegate arm and the control end of the wastegate shaft; and a wastegate plug that extends from the wastegate arm where the wastegate plug includes a toroidal surface defined by a portion of a torus where, in a closed state, the toroidal surface contacts the conical surface of the wastegate seat to cover the wastegate passage.

An engine cylinder head and turbocharger assembly includes a turbocharger having a turbine housing, wherein part of the turbine housing is integrated into a casting of the engine cylinder head. The turbocharger is arranged with respect to the engine cylinder head such that the rotational axis of the turbocharger is transverse to the engine axis along which the engine cylinders are spaced. A compressor housing of the turbocharger is oriented toward an air intake side of the engine cylinder head, and the turbine housing is oriented toward an exhaust side of the engine cylinder head.

An assembly includes a cast cartridge component and a curved wall where the cast cartridge includes a base plate having an opening configured for receipt of a turbine wheel, an exhaust conduit having an inlet and an outlet, a cylindrical wall, and vanes disposed between the cylindrical wall and the base plate where adjacent vanes define throats; where the curved wall includes a proximal end and a distal end, and an upper edge and a lower edge; and where joinder of the proximal end and the outlet of the exhaust conduit, joinder of the upper edge and the cylindrical wall and joinder of the lower edge and the base plate forms a volute configured to direct exhaust received via the inlet to a turbine wheel via the throats. Turbine housing assembly

An assembly includes a cast cartridge component that includes a base plate having an opening configured for receipt of a turbine wheel, a cylindrical wall that comprises a shroud portion, one or more supports disposed between the cylindrical wall and the base plate, an exhaust conduit that has an inlet, an outlet and a wastegate opening positioned intermediate the inlet and the outlet, and a substantially planar surface integral to the exhaust conduit, the wastegate opening located on the planar surface; and a wastegate outlet component that includes a cylindrical portion that extends between and defines an inlet and an outlet, and a cover portion configured to cover the substantially planar surface of the cast cartridge component to form a wastegate chamber where one or more openings provide for flow of exhaust from the wastegate chamber to the cylindrical portion. An aluminum alloy turbine housing includes an inlet for exhaust, a turbine wheel space configured to receive exhaust via the inlet, a wastegate opening configured to receive exhaust via the inlet and to provide received exhaust to a wastegate chamber, and a locally hardened valve seat surrounding the wastegate opening. An assembly can include a turbine housing that includes a bore, a wastegate seat and two wastegate passages that extend to the wastegate seat; a rotatable wastegate shaft configured for receipt by the bore; a wastegate arm extending from the wastegate shaft; and a wastegate plug extending from the wastegate arm where the wastegate plug comprises a profile defined in part by a portion of a torus, for contacting the wastegate seat in a closed state, and defined in part by two plug portions, for defining clearances with respect to the wastegate seat in an open state. An turbocharger cartridge and engine cylinder head assembly includes a turbocharger cartridge that includes some but not all of the components of a turbocharger, while the engine cylinder head provides the components of the turbocharger that are not included in the cartridge. The cartridge includes a center housing rotating assembly having a shaft that joins a turbine wheel to a compressor wheel, the shaft passing through bearings housed in the center housing. The engine cylinder head defines a receptacle that receives the cartridge. The head also defines a diffuser and volute for the compressor, and a turbine volute. The cartridge defines a turbine nozzle and turbine contour, and further includes a wastegate unit as a part of the cartridge.

A turbocharger assembly includes a center housing rotating assembly, which comprises a center housing, bearings housed in the center housing, a shaft rotatably supported in the bearings, and compressor and turbine wheels affixed to opposite ends of the shaft; an engine cylinder head and a housing member formed together as a one-piece integral structure, wherein the housing member defines a compressor volute that receives compressed air from the compressor wheel, a turbine volute for receiving exhaust gas from the engine, a turbine nozzle for directing exhaust gas from the turbine volute into the turbine wheel, and a turbine contour; a compressor contour plug that defines an axial inlet for the compressor and a compressor contour; and a wastegate unit operable for allowing exhaust gas to bypass the turbine wheel when the wastegate unit is open and preventing exhaust gas from bypassing the turbine wheel when the wastegate unit is closed.

An assembly can include a turbine housing that includes a bore, a wastegate seat and a wastegate passage that extends to the wastegate seat; a bushing configured for receipt by the bore; a rotatable wastegate shaft configured for receipt by the bushing; a wastegate arm extending from the wastegate shaft; and a wastegate plug extending from the wastegate arm where the wastegate plug includes a profile, defined in part by a portion of a torus, for contacting the wastegate seat to cover the wastegate passage. A system includes: a cylinder head for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine where the cylinder head includes, per cylinder, a first exhaust valve and a corresponding first exhaust port and a second exhaust valve and a corresponding second exhaust port and where, for simultaneous control of the first exhaust valve and the second exhaust valve of a cylinder, for that cylinder, the cylinder head delivers a quantity of exhaust via the first exhaust port and a different quantity of exhaust via the second exhaust port; a first exhaust turbine in fluid communication with the first exhaust ports of the cylinder head; and a second exhaust turbine in fluid communication with the second exhaust ports of the cylinder head.
