A robotic surgical system can include an end effector coupled to a robotic arm. A reamer operable to ream bone can be coupled to the end effector (e.g., via a retainer). The reamer can include a primary driveshaft and a cutting head. The primary driveshaft can be rotatable about a first axis of rotation and the cutting head can be rotatable about a second axis of rotation, for example parallel to and offset from the first axis of rotation.

End effector for robotic shoulder arthroplasty

Patient-specific instrumentation for use when performing articular joint repair is provided. A patient-specific jig is adapted to be positioned over a bone at an articular surface thereof for assisting in preparing the bone surface for reception of a prosthesis. The jig comprises a bone contacting portion adapted to matingly contact a portion of the articular surface of the bone and a cutting slot adapted to receive therein a saw blade for resecting the articular surface of the bone. The cutting slot may be press-fitted into the opening of a cut guide. A patient-specific plate and a patient-specific rotational guide are also provided for guiding a positioning of the prosthesis over the resected surface of the bone. A method for manufacturing the patient-specific jig is further provided.

Patient-specific instrumentation and method for articular joint repair

A pin placement instrument for placing a pin in a bone comprises an anatomical interface with a hook-like portion being opened in a lateral direction of the instrument to receive a bone therein in a planned position. A drill guide is connected to the anatomical interface and defining at least one guide slot in a longitudinal direction of the instrument. The guide slot has a lateral opening over its full length in the drill guide to allow lateral withdrawal of the instrument in said lateral direction with the pin placed in the bone passing through the lateral opening. A bushing is removably placed in said guide slot via said longitudinal direction in a planned fit, the bushing defining a throughbore aligned with the guide slot and adapted to receive the pin extending in said longitudinal direction when the bushing is in the guide slot for pin placement.

Glenoid implant surgery using patient specific instrumentation

A computer-assisted surgery system comprises a first surgical device with a tracking unit tracked during a surgical procedure and adapted to perform a first function associated to the surgical procedure. A second surgical device is adapted to perform a second function associated to the surgical procedure. A triggered unit is triggered when the first surgical device and the second surgical device reach a predetermined proximity relation. A surgical procedure processing unit tracks the first surgical device. A trigger detector detects a triggering of the triggered unit. A CAS application operates steps of a surgical procedure. A controller commands the CAS application to activate a selected step associated with the second function in the surgical procedure when the trigger detector signals a detection. An interface displays information about the selected step in the surgical procedure.

Proximity-triggered computer-assisted surgery system and method

A system and method for generating a model of a patient specific cut guide instrument for harvesting a graft comprises a model of a graft defined by an implant interface surface, a bone interface surface, and a spatial geometry therebetween, the model being specific to a patient. A patient-specific instrument generator outputs the model of the patient specific cut guide instrument, the patient-specific instrument generator including a position determination module for orienting and positioning at least a first guide axis, and for positioning an abutment on a model of a donor bone as a function of the spatial geometry, and an instrument body generator module for generating a model of the patient specific cut guide instrument comprising a body supporting a cut guide to perform a depth cut in the donor bone positioned and oriented as a function of a contact of the body with the abutment on the donor bone, and of the model of the graft, a first guide channel for alignment with the first guide axis, and at least one anchor guide for securing the patient specific instrument cut guide on the donor bone as abutted with the abutment and aligned with the first guide axis, whereby the patient specific cut guide instrument is used for harvesting the graft for subsequent implanting without alterations to the spatial geometry of the graft.

Patient-specific bone grafting system and method

A system for generating a model of a patient specific cut guide instrument for harvesting a graft comprises a model of a graft defined by an implant interface surface, a bone interface surface, and a spatial geometry therebetween, the model being specific to a patient. A patient-specific instrument generator outputs the model of the patient specific cut guide instrument, the patient-specific instrument generator including a position determination module for orienting and positioning at least a first guide axis, and for positioning an abutment on a model of a donor bone as a function of the spatial geometry, and an instrument body generator module for generating a model of the patient specific cut guide instrument comprising a body supporting a cut guide to perform a depth cut in the donor bone positioned and oriented as a function of a contact of the body with the abutment on the donor bone, and of the model of the graft, a first guide channel for alignment with the first guide axis, and at least one anchor guide for securing the patient specific instrument cut guide on the donor bone as abutted with the abutment and aligned with the first guide axis, whereby the patient specific cut guide instrument is used for harvesting the graft for subsequent implanting without alterations to the spatial geometry of the graft.

A system and method for generating a patient specific instrumentation jig model for implant revision comprises an anchor surface identifier to identify anchor surface(s) from a patient specific bone model of a bone requiring implant revision and from data related to an implanted implant on the bone. The anchor surface is in close proximity to the implanted implant. A PSI revision jig model generator generates a jig model using at least the identified anchor surface and a model of a replacement implant, the PSI revision jig model generator outputting a jig model comprising patient specific contact surface(s) corresponding to the identified anchor surface, and at least one tool interface portion positioned and/or oriented relative to the at least one contact surface, the at least one tool interface portion adapted to be interfaced to a tool altering the bone for subsequently installing an implant on the bone.

Patient-specific instrumentation for implant revision surgery

A method and system for planning a creation of a cement bore in a bone comprises obtaining a virtual model of a bone, the model of the bone including a proximal bone surface, a distal bone surface, and a depth profile between the proximal bone surface and the distal bone surface. A planned positioning of a first implant selected to be implanted in the proximal bone surface is obtained. An identity of at least one tool used to alter the proximal bone surface to receive the first implant in the planned positioning and obtaining geometry data for the at least one tool is obtained. A cement bore required in the bone using the geometry data of the at least one tool and the planned positioning of the first implant is generated. The virtual model of the bone with the cement bore indicative of a relation between the cement bore and the distal bone surface is output.

Method and system for assisting implant placement in thin bones such as scapula

A positioning block for use in knee surgery includes a rotational mounting removably engageable to the bone element by a multi-axial fastener such that the mounting element is selectively rotatable relative to the bone element about at least two substantially perpendicular axes of rotation. A guide body portion is engaged with the rotational mounting element such that it is translatable relative thereto along while being rotationally fixed relative to the mounting element. The guide body portion is moveable relative to the bone element in at least three degrees of freedom, the three degrees of freedom including at least two rotational degrees of freedom and at least one translational degree of freedom. A trackable member on the guide body portion is identified and tracked by a computer assisted surgery system.

Surgical universal positioning block and tool guide

A positioning block () for use in total knee replacement surgery, permitting five degrees-of-freedom movement relative to a bone element () to which it is fixed. The positioning block () comprises a rotational mounting element () that is removably engaged to the bone element such that the mounting element () is selectively rotatable relative to the bone element, about three substantially perpendicular axes of rotation.
