There is described a method for generating an image view from at least one input image for a 3D display using a backward processing enabling post processing for handling holes in the image view.

Geometric method of transforming a first two-dimensional image into a second two-dimensional image through an image processing applied to the first images or to the second image. In this method, one of said first and second images is divided into several surfaces, each of the surfaces of the divided image is transformed by a bilinear transformation specific to each surface, and the transformed surfaces are grouped together.

The present invention provides an improved method and device for digital motion blur removal by using motion information extracted from a sequence of images captured immediately before the image to be corrected was captured. In particular, the invention includes estimating () motion information of the previous sequence of images and analyzing them based on motion estimation techniques and then extrapolating () the motion of the image to be corrected based on the motion estimation in order to remove () the motion blur effects in the desired captured image. The various types of devices which may implement the method of the present invention will thereby display () blur free digital images.

The present invention relates to a filter circuit for a set of original data (X&#x2013;X) able to implement in series the steps of discrete transformation (DCT), correction (ZER) of odd transformed data and inverse discrete transformation (IDCT). The filter circuit takes advantage of the fact that the paths corresponding to the even and odd transformed data are completely separate with the exception of a first processing stage (ST) of the discrete transformation and a last processing stage (ST) of the inverse discrete transformation in order to connect a first half of the data issuing from the first stage to the last processing stage. The implementation of the filter circuit is thus simplified, both making the circuit less expensive and giving it a lower power consumption. For optimized implementation, the filter circuit functions in differential mode.

Circuit for filtering video data in the frequency domain

A data processing arrangement comprises an input circuit [INP], an interconnection network [ICN] and a data processing circuit [PRC]. The input circuit [INP] forms successive groups of data [GRP] and, moreover, generates a basic control data item [BCD] and an additional control data item [SCD] for each group of data [GRP]. A basic control data item [BCD] indicates for each data item one of a plurality of terminals [] to which the data item should be applied. An additional control data item [SCD] indicates for each data item if this data item is valid [+] or not valid [&#x2212;]. The interconnection network [ICN] applies the successive groups of data to the terminals [] in dependence on the basic control data item [BCD] and on the additional control data item [SCD]. The interconnection network [ICN] applies a data item to the terminal indicated by the basic control data item [BCD] if the data item is valid [+]. If the data item is not valid [&#x2212;], the interconnection network [ICN] applies another valid data item instead. The data processing circuit [PRC] processes the data applied to the terminals [] in order to obtain an output data item. Such a data processing arrangement enables a low-cost processing of a set of data, some of which may be non-valid. The arrangement can be employed, for example, for filtering a set of pixels obtained from a MPEG4 decoder.

Processing of a data set

Data processing method is disclosed for processing a series of temporal processing steps [S]. The method comprises a processing step [S(n)] that generates a result [O(n)] on the basis of a set of results [O(n-1), O(n-2), . . . O(n-m)] of certain preceding processing steps [S(n-1), S(n-2), . . . S(n-m)], wherein the processing step [S] is performed in two sub-steps: a preparation sub-step [SA] and finishing sub-step [SB]. In the preparation sub-step [SA] an intermediate result [I] is determined on the basis of an incomplete set of results in which, at least the result of the nearest preceding processing step is missing. In the finishing sub-step [SB] the result [O] is determined on the basis of the intermediate result [I] and the result of the nearest preceding processing step and other results which are missing in the incomplete set of results.

In the Improved PB-frames mode, one of the options of the H.263&plus; Recommendation, a macroblock of a B-frame may be encoded according to a forward, a backward or a bidirectional prediction mode. The invention relates to a method of encoding a sequence of pictures defining a strategy for the choice of a prediction mode among the three possible ones in the encoding of B-macroblock. This strategy is based upon SAD(Sum of Absolute Difference) calculations and motion vectors coherence and allows to use backward prediction when scene cuts occur. In the proposed strategy, the SAD of the bidirectional prediction is not necessarily derived when the motion is non linear allowing less calculation and reduction in CPU burden. The invention also relates to an encoding system for carrying out said method and including a computer-readable medium storing instructions that allow the implementation of this method.

Selection means (26) (27) select a limited number of symbols contained in the said blocks to which the correlation calculation relates. This selection can be effected by either a random choice or as a function of the data content of the blocks. The said current block can be divided into zones onto which the selection means act. A correlator (25) performs the correlation calculation block-sequentially on the overall current block and a decision unit (28) determines the displacement vector. It is possible to chose for the correlator (25) an architecture which promotes either its calculation rate or a reduction in its hardware bulk. The invention is used to reduce the flow of data to be transmitted, more specifically for image (television, videophone) or sound processing.
