Structured surface, having a support layer and, connected electrically to it, peak-shaped elements, each peak-shaped element exhibiting a cylindrical or conical shaped stem region adjacent to the support layer and at least two, preferably 2 to 4 peaks at the free end of the stem region. The structured surface is suitable in particular as electron emission source for ultra-flat image screens, for electron lithography or for scanning or transmission microscopy.

In acidic Sn(II)-containing electrolytes for coloring oxide layers on anodized aluminum or aluminum alloys, or for electroplating, the Sn(II)-ions are oxidized. By the addition of substances, so called stabilizers, to the electrolytes this oxidation can be more or less prevented i.e. Sn(II) can be more or less stabilized. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the stabilizer can be decisive for the quality of the deposit or the coloring of the oxide layer. It is known that the presence of substantial amounts of Sn(IV) along with Sn(II), as a result of inadequate stabilization of the Sn(II), impairs the quality of the surface treatment. An acidic, Sn(II)-containing electrolyte containing an addition of at least one soluble diphenylamine or substituted diphenylamine derivative stabilizes the Sn(II) and produces flawless coloring.

In processes for electrolytically dyeing anodic oxide layers on aluminum or aluminum alloys with direct or alternating current in electrolytes containing metal salts, high requirements are imposed on the uniformity of the dyeing and on the dyeing rate. The improvement of the uniformity of the dyeing and an increased dyeing rate can be achieved by pretreating the oxide layer by means of asymmetric alternating current before it is dyed. Such a process is preferably used in combination with an Sn-containing electrolyte.

A process and device for galvanic deposition of a dispersion coating on the cylindrical or slightly conical inner face of a cathode workpiece effect the continuous feed of a circulating electrolyte containing metal ions and suspended, fine-grained hard particles. The cathodically polarized workpiece or its inner face is employed at least as the upper part of the outer wall of the ring-shaped electrolyte container. This inner face is fed electrolyte in the form of a rising, spiral-shaped but vortex-free stream. The process is employed for all cylindrical or slightly conical metallic inner faces which are at least open on one side, in particular for coating brake drums made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy.

The homogeneity of the electrolyte bath close to the surface to be coated is of great importance when depositing dispersion coatings by electrolyte co-precipitation of solid particles in suspension and at least one dissolved metal salt. Homogenous suspension electrolyte is made to flow continuously onto the surface (24) to be coated with the help of at least one feed pipe (42) which features outlets (43) directed at that surface (24) and which moves along adjacent to the said surface (24). The said feed pipe (42) is connected via a pipe (41) to a hollow axle (3) and such that these parts together form a rotor. The workpiece (2) to be coated can at the same time serve as the container for the electrolyte bath.
