Systems and methods for providing access to within a vertebral body. A stylet is removably disposed within a reamer, and the reamer is removably disposed within a working cannula. A tip of the stylet is positioned distal to a reamer head with a stylet hub being positioned proximal to a reamer hub. The reamer hub may include indicia configured to be aligned with the stylet hub to indicate a distance by which the tip is positioned beyond a distal end of the reamer. Complementary coupling features on the reamer hub and the stylet hub are configured to facilitate the workflow and provide mechanical advantage during removal of the stylet from the reamer. The system may include a spacer device configured to be positioned between the reamer hub and the stylet hub. The spacer device may be coupled to a stylet shaft of the stylet.

Systems and methods for providing access to within bony anatomy

An implant for restoring height of a vertebral body. The implant includes upper and lower plates configured to be moved away from one another in the craniocaudal direction for the implant to be deployed. Supports are coupled to the upper plate and a distal end portion, and arranged in a crisscross configuration in the proximal-to-distal direction in each of an insertion configuration and a deployed configuration. The crisscross configuration facilitates increased expansion of the implant. The supports may be laterally spaced from one another to define a void space for receiving retaining element, and inner and outer arcuate surfaces may provide a generally cylindrical profile to the implant. One of the supports may be a support fork arranged in a V-shaped configuration. A length of the supports may be approximately 50-90% of a length of the upper and lower plates. The implant may be formed through additive manufacturing.

A steerable system and methods for accessing bone. A control mechanism includes a handle configured to be detachably secured to a trocar. The handle includes a drive shaft coupled to a sliding shaft such that relative rotation is prevented and relative translation is permitted. A rod having a preformed bend is removably disposed within the cannula. The rod is prevented from rotating relative to the drive shaft such that a deflection plane of the preformed bend is predefined relative to each of the sliding shaft, the handle, and the trocar when the handle is coupled to the trocar. Rotating a sliding ring of the handle translates the drive shaft to advance the rod beyond the trocar such that the preformed bend extends laterally out of the trocar in the deflection plane. The rod may be removed from the cannula, and material may be injected through the cannula.

Steerable systems and methods for accessing bone

Systems and methods for augmenting a vertebral body may include an optional access cannula, introducer device, and a stylet having a stylet shaft. The access cannula includes a hub portion and a cannula shaft extending from the cannula hub. The cannula shaft includes a distal end positionable within the vertebral body that defines a lumen along a longitudinal axis. The introducer device may be a telescoping or pivoting introducer device that is removably coupled to the hub portion of the access cannula. The introducer device controls the movement of the flexible distal portion of the stylet shaft and the flexible sheath from within the introducer device through the access cannula to within a target site in the vertebral body, wherein the flexible distal portion is moved from the constrained to the unconstrained state to displace cancellous bone within the target site.
