A method of injecting a filler in controlled manner into a protective tube for protecting optical fibers, the method consisting in regulating the delivery rate of the filler being injected as the closed tube advances. In the method, the delivery rate is regulated by detecting the position of the front of the filler contained in the protective tube relative to at least one detection point on the line for advancing the closed protective tube.

A machine for overmolding an equipment of an underwater cable includes a heated mold. The mold has a fixed half-mold with two side injection molding inlets and a mobile half-mold on a machine frame. These are coupled to a high-pressure injection molding press through an overmolding material distribution chamber and to the ends of the mold cavity. The machine finds an application in overmolding joint boxes and repeater housings.

The device comprises a sleeve which is helically preformed and deformable, a substantially central portion of the sleeve receives the splice which may optionally be reinforced by a channel section trough. The splice deforms the central portion which is secured in a housing provided in a support. The device is applicable to optical undersea cables.

The undersea cable has optical fiber embedded in material filling a tube which itself lies inside a helical lay of metal wires having high mechanical strength, the interstices between the wires of the helical lay being filled with a sealing material. The helical lay is surrounded by an extruded sheath made of an electrically insulating and abrasion resistant material, and for the purposes of remotely powering equipment interposed on the cable, the cable includes conductive means either belonging to the helical lay or surrounding it, said conductor means being surrounded by said sheath.

The cable has optical fibers embedded in a material filling the tube which itself lies inside a helical lay of metal wires having high mechanical strength and in which the interstices are filled with a sealing material. The cable includes a first extruded sheath between the tube and the helical lay, and the helical lay is itself covered by a second extruded sheath which is insulating and abrasion resistant, and if the cable is for a remotely-powered link, it includes a conductive strip on the tube or on the first sheath.
