The invention provides a method of extracting the hydrogen sulfide contained in a gas comprising aromatic hydrocarbons, wherein the following stages are carried out: a) contacting said gas with an absorbent solution so as to obtain a gas depleted in hydrogen sulfide and an absorbent solution laden with hydrogen sulfide, b) heating and expanding the hydrogen sulfide-laden absorbent solution to a predetermined temperature and pressure so as to release a gaseous fraction comprising aromatic hydrocarbons and to obtain an absorbent solution depleted in aromatic hydrocarbons, said temperature and pressure being so selected that said gaseous fraction comprises at least 50% of the aromatic hydrocarbons and at most 35% hydrogen sulfide contained in said hydrogen sulfide-laden absorbent solution, c) thermally regenerating the absorbent solution depleted in aromatic hydrocarbon compounds so as to release a hydrogen sulfide-rich gaseous effluent and to obtain a regenerated absorbent solution.

Method of extracting the hydrogen sulfide contained in a hydrocarbon gas

Process for removing hydrogen sulfide at low concentration in a gas containing water vapor. The gas is cooled to a temperature below the dew point of water, which condenses and separates the water. The dry gas is scrubbed free of hydrogen sulfide by an H.sub.2 S-absorbent solvent forming a purified gas. The purified gas is contacted and rehydrated with heated water so that the water content as water vapor corresponds to a mass flow rate of water substantially equal to the mass flow rate of the water present in the H.sub.2 S-containing gas before cooling. An apparatus for carrying out the process is disclosed.

The present invention relates to a process for the selective extraction treatment of a gaseous hydrocarbon mixture containing 5 to 3000 ppm (parts per million) by volume of hydrogen sulfide and 0.3 to 3% carbon dioxide, in order to obtain a purified gas containing less than 4 ppm by volume hydrogen sulfide and less than 2% carbon dioxide. The gaseous hydrocarbon mixture is submitted to a series of counter-current washings by contact with a tertiary amine aqueous solution in an absorption zone from which is drawn a liquid effluent enriched in hydrogen sulfide.
