It has been found possible to achieve fuel savings by heating diesel fuel prior to injection to higher temperatures than those currently used, and in particular, for practical reasons, to temperatures in the range 70.degree. C. to 120.degree. C. However, to obtain the saving it is necessary to simultaneously modify the volumetric flow rate of fuel in order to maintain its mass flow rate in spite of two factors which tend to reduce the effective mass flow rate with increasing temperature, namely: volumetric expansion; and increased fluidity. Not only is fuel saved by heating to such temperatures, but the maximum power and torque which an engine is capable of delivering are also increased.

Between a drive unit (not shown) and a driven unit (not shown) there is a gear train (2,7) which includes tuned bars (1, 10) which are so dimensioned that, in operation, the nodes in the torsion vibration to which the system is subject are situated in said tuned bars.

In a method and device for heating fuel for internal combustion, especially diesel, motors, the fuel is heated in a heat exchanger as a result of heat exchange with the cooling water and the lubricating oil of the motor. The heat exchanger comprises three circuits combined in a bundle of parallel channels.

Fuel heating method and device for vehicles

The object is to provide an apparatus for easily starting up the engine under cold conditions and avoid any crystallization of the Diesel oil under these conditions. The apparatus comprises a heat exchanger (2) heating the fuel by means of a heat-carrying fluid, such as the cooling liquid of the engine, when it has reached a predetermined minimum value. A reserve supply of hot fuel (1) is connected to the exchanger (2) and comprises at least one auxiliary source of heat (20). The reserve supply of hot fuel is connected to an injection pump (8) and also to a thermostat valve (11) inserted in a return pipe (10) of the injection pump (8). This valve (11) connects the return valve (10) directly to the reserve supply of hot fuel (1) below a previously fixed temperature of the latter or when the temperature of the fuel is higher than the previously fixed temperature, it connects the return pipe (10) to the main fuel tank (13) which is itself connected to the heat exchanger.
