Ammunition consists of a full-caliber or sub-caliber bullet, of the type comprising a substantially rigid bullet body and a deformable part, the deformable part consisting of an approximately cylindrical expansion ring, the rear part of which is fitted onto the front part of the bullet body.

The invention relates to ammunition for hunting guns. The bullet is of the type comprising an internal shaft () with a rigidity equal to or greater than that of the body of the bullet, disposed in a hole drilled in the body of the bullet along its axis, and this internal shaft () is set back from the orifice () of the hole, the latter, situated on the axis, has a smaller diameter than that of the internal shaft (), and the wall of the ogival head () of the bullet body () comprises one or more deformation notches close to the orifice of the hole. Applicable to the improvement of the terminal efficiency of small, medium or large caliber hunting guns with the caliber of the gun or undersizes.

Hunting bullet with reduced aerodynamic resistance

The invention relates to ammunitions for weapons of all calibers. The inventive ammunition includes a bullet which has the same caliber as the weapon or which is under calibrated, comprising a center part () and a rear part () which can carry a fin (). The bullet has a hole () which is drilled in the front surface of the forebody () in accordance with the axis of the bullet, containing an internally carried sub-projective () which is more rigid than the body of the bullet and is provided on the surface with several longitudinal ribs (). The invention can be used for ammunition with sub-projectiles in all calibers of hunting weapons with a shotgun or rifled barrel.

A subcaliber projectile including a penetrator preferably made of tungsten eavy metal, and having a penetrator tip section and a section following thereafter and extending over the major portion of the penetrator length which is provided with an external thread (helical groove) or circumferential annular grooves to provide a form-locking connection with a discardable propelling cage sabot. To realize improved piercing power for the penetrator, the form-locking region is composed of annular grooves without a pitch, or of a fine metric thread having a thread valley, with a width of approximately one to three times the base width of the groove defining wall or of a thread peak. Preferably a more brittle material is employed in the front penetrator region than in the tail region, and a further indentation structure is incorporated in the first frontal thread turns or grooves of the form-locking region.

Penetrator

A penetrator shell has at least a front and a rear high-density core element each having a front face and a rear and lying in a stack extending along an axis with the front face of the rear element engaging the rear face of the front element. The rear face of the front element and front face of the rear element are substantially complementary, part-spherical, and centered on the axis. Thus, the front element can rock or pivot on the rear element while remaining in contact with the front face thereof. A high-density main penetrator body is engaged against and extends axially rearward away from the rear face of the rear element. A casing sleeve is engaged snugly around the core elements and has a front end generally at the front element and a rear end secured to the main penetrator body. An aerodynamic tip is secured to and extends axially forward from the front end of the sleeve.

The invention relates to hunting ammunitions each comprising a projectile actuated by the combustion of a propellant charge and characterized in that it comprises an annular chamber separated from the propellant charge by a partition comprising one or several brittle areas.

The invention relates in particular to hunting ammunition for a fire-arm of the kind having a subcaliber bullet fitted with a feathering, the subcaliber bullet allowing for destabilization on its trajectory beyond a distance travelled outside of the fire-arm.

Hunting ammunition comprising a bullet of increased effectiveness

A sabot arrangement is produced in accordance with an improved manufacturing method. The sabot arrangement includes a rotational symmetrical sabot body having a central axial bore and radial separating grooves or slots. The radial grooves or slots divide the sabot body into a plurality of equal segments. These slots nearly sever the sabot body into separate segments, so that a material bridge remains near a forward edge and a material bridge remains near a rear edge of the sabot body, which material bridges function as fracture zones.

Process for manufacturing a sabot arrangement for a sub-caliber

An improved subcaliber fin-stabilized penetrator projectile having a plurality of high density pre-penetrator elements mounted in axial alignment in front of a main penetrator body. A casing having a frusto-conically shaped inner axial through-bore is threadably mounted on said main penetrator body and said pre-penetrator elements are matingly mounted in said through-bore and have mating frusto-conical shapes. A ballistic hood is threadably mounted on the forward end of the casing. The main penetrator and pre-penetrator elements are made of a high density metal alloy.

Subcaliber, fin-stabilized penetrator projectile

An improved nose construction for a subcaliber inertial projectile which is ired with the aid of a sabot. A hood or body is mounted on the nose portion of the projectile. The hood is made of synthetic material and includes longitudinally extending fracture zones and is of substantially cylindrical shape. The frontal portion of the hood is recessed and forms an air flow receiving surface. In lieu of a hood a body, made of a thermoplastic material or the like, may be mounted on the nose portion. This body is adapted to disintegrate as result of air friction. The presence of the hood or body on the nose portion of the projectile, as it exits from a non-illustrated gun barrel, avoids or at least reduces unfavorable air-streaming forces which destabilize the flight characteristics of the projectile and thereby favors a uniform separation of the sabot segments from the projectile. Such uniform separation reduces or completely eliminates undesirable oscillations during flight of the projectile. After the hood or body have disintegrated the projectile acquires a more favorable c.sub.w value (drag coefficient during flight.

An armor-penetrating projectile comprises an outer substantially cylindrically tubular member of great length/diameter ratio and density, centered on an axis, and having an axially throughgoing bore defined by an inner surface and an axially elongated inner member of greater strength and elasticity than the outer member extending axially through the bore the full length of the outer member and having an outer surface in tight radial contact with the inner surface of the outer member at at least a plurality of annular locations spaced along the axis. This inner member can be a bundle of wires that is inserted through the bore after the outer member has been expanded by heat, then twisted and longitudinally prestressed to lock tightly in the outer member.
