Safety binding for alpine skis

A safety binding apparatus for alpine skiing. The binding includes a longitudinal slide affixed to the upper surface of the ski, a body solidly affixed to a base longitudinally slidably mounted on the slide and including a retention jaw, preferably for the rear end of the boot, as well as an energization mechanism for the jaw, an elastic return device which includes a recoil spring for biasing the body towards the front, and a linkage device positioned between the body and the ski, permitting an adjustment of the longitudinal position of the body of the binding. The elastic return device is mounted in a housing formed in the upper surface of the ski and the recoil spring is inserted between a support element solidly affixed to the ski and the linkage device.

Safety ski binding

A device for mounting a ski boot (2) on a ski (1), comprising a longitudinal intermediate support plate (5), on the two end sections of which two bindings (3, 4) are mounted, and a layer of an elastic shock-absorbing material (6) inserted between the intermediate support plate (5) and the upper surface of the ski (1). The layer of elastic shock-absorbing material (6) has a localized stiffness (R) which decreases (or increases) progressively and uniformly beginning at a single intermediate zone of the layer of shock-absorbing material (6), where the thickness value is greatest (or least), and extending in the direction of each of the two ends of this layer.

Device for mounting a ski boot on a ski

A safety binding apparatus and a method for positioning the binding upon a ski. The apparatus includes a longitudinal slide affixed to the ski and a body carrying a retention jaw for an end of a boot, an energization mechanism for biasing the jaw, the body being longitudinally slidably mounted on the slide. An assembly is provided for immobilizing the body of the binding on the slide in one or more different longitudinal positions to accommodate the particular shoe or boot to be mounted on the ski. The immobilization assembly includes a plurality of longitudinally aligned notches which respectively define the different longitudinal positions that the body of the binding can occupy on the slide and a latch having at least one projection which is elastically biased toward the notches for engagement of the projection in one of the notches, thus immobilizing the body of the binding on the slide in one of the longitudinal positions. The apparatus further includes at least one removable plug positioned within a respective one of the notches for increasing the ease of assembly and adjustment of the positioning of the body of the binding on the ski, since, according to the method of the invention, the projection of the latch can be simply moved to its selected final predetermined position, sliding over the plug or plugs positioned in the notches which correspond to other, non-selected positions.

A safety ski binding for holding a ski boot on a ski compensates for biases of violent but brief intensities. A shock absorber is located within a compression spring which presses against an adjustment nut. A rocking device transfers the movement of the shock absorber during a violent bias to the adjustment nut to cause additional compression of the spring. At least one hole is in the piston of the shock absorber to permit the passage of fluid during biases of weak intensities and to prevent the passage of the fluid during biases of violent but brief intensities.

A safety binding for a ski boot which includes a jaw adapted to retain a portion of the boot and to release under the effects of a force greater than a predetermined release threshold wherein the jaw is moveable between a stable equilibrium position and a release position in which the jaw releases the boot. The binding further includes an energization assembly which includes an elastic return device, such as a spring, for exerting a force on the jaw to bias the jaw into the stable equilibrium position; a shock absorber; and a compensation mechanism for varying the release threshold as a function of the intensity and duration of force whereby under the effect of a soft force. The release threshold is defined mainly by (1) the initial energization of the elastic return such that the shock absorber will not substantially change the compression of the spring, and (2) under the effect of a violet force, i.e. a brief force, the release threshold will increase because of the reaction of the shock absorber which opposes the compression of the spring, wherein such an increase in the release threshold is limited by the initial energization of the spring, increased by the additional energization that the shock absorber produces in the spring via the compensation mechanism.

Safety binding

A safety binding adapted to releasably hold a boot on a ski includes an apparatus for securing the binding to the ski, a movable body with spaced lateral arms pivotably connected to the apparatus transversely to the longitudinal extent of the ski, and a jaw pivotably connected to the body along a transverse axis. The jaw includes a device for engaging and holding a portion of the boot on the apparatus when the boot is positioned on the apparatus and the binding is attached to a ski. The binding includes a device for biasing the jaw and body towards the ski and increasing the bias on the jaw when the body moves upward. A safety binding, adapted to secure one end of a boot to a ski, includes an apparatus for securing the binding to the ski, a body with spaced lateral arms pivotably connected to the apparatus along a transverse axis, and a jaw pivotably connected to the body along a transverse axis. The jaw includes a device for retaining an end of the boot. The binding includes a device for biasing the a jaw towards the ski, which includes an elastic energy storing element, a jaw ramp located on an inner surface of the jaw, and a pressure element slideably contacting the jaw ramp. The binding further includes a lever, pivotably connected to the apparatus along a transverse axis, which includes an upper portion located between the first pressure element and the elastic energy storing element.

Binding with double-acting release mechanism

A safety binding adapted to releasably hold a boot on a ski, including a device for securing the binding to the ski, a movable body with spaced lateral arms pivotably connected to the securing device, a jaw pivotably connected to the body which includes a device for engaging and holding a portion of the boot, and a device, which include a rocking lever, for biasing the jaw and the body towards the ski and for increasing the bias on the jaw in response to upward movement of the body. A platform, adapted to connect a safety binding to a ski, includes opposed side recesses adapted to be attached to the binding, and an inclined projection extending upwardly from the platform which includes a device for slidably engaging a device for biasing the binding toward the ski. A safety binding for a ski boot adapted to retain one end of the boot and to free that end when it exerts a force on the binding exceeding a predetermined threshold. The binding includes a movable body adapted to be connected to the ski by two lateral arms, a movable jaw adapted to retain the end of the boot and including a ramp located on its inner surface, an energization device including an elastic energy storage device, pushing elements, and a rocking lever, and a device for supporting the body which is adapted to be attached to the ski.
