In a process for the combined production of a) a hydrogen-enriched gas and a carbon monoxide-enriched gas and/or b) a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide by cryogenic distillation and scrubbing, a still liquor is extracted from a scrubbing column and sent to a stripping column, a still liquor is extracted from the stripping column and sent to a separating column for carbon monoxide and methane and a cooling fluid is used at a pressure greater than that of the head of the separating column for cooling at least one fluid extracted at an intermediate level from the scrubbing column.

Method and system for producing carbon monoxide by cryogenic distillation

Process and plant for the combined production of an ammonia synthesis mixture and carbon monoxide

An apparatus for the cryogenic separation of a mixture containing at least hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane comprises two phase separators (A, H), two heat exchangers (D, K) and two stripping columns (B, I). The mixture cooled in the first exchanger is sent into a phase separator and at least some of the condensed fraction is sent into the first stripping column (B). At least some of the head gas from the stripping column is sent into the second phase separator (H) and the liquid produced is sent into the head of the second stripping column (I). The base liquid from the first stripping column may be sent into a purification column (C).

The plant comprises an adsorbent-filled tank (8) permanently interposed in the line (2), between the purification unit (3), operating by adsorption of solidifiable impurities from the gas mixture (5) containing carbon monoxide, and the cryogenic separation unit which delivers pure carbon monoxide at its outlet (6). Carbon monoxide production plant incorporating a cryogenic separation

Carbon monoxide is recovered by a cryogenic route from a gas mixture, for example from the tail gas of an operation for scrubbing with nitrogen in the preparation of an ammonia synthesis mixture, this mixture containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen and other constituents including nitrogen. The hydrogen is separated off by partial condensation and the other components by distillation of the condensate. The carbon monoxide is produced by distillation in two columns, of which only one has a head condenser fed with a flow of liquid carbon monoxide. A liquid flow is drawn at an intermediate level in the column with the head condenser and directed to the head of the other column.

Carbon monoxide and hydrogen are from a gaseous mixture comprising essentially these two components and methane, by the steps of i) cooling the initial gaseous mixture so as partially to condense it; ii) separating a condensed portion of the mixture from an uncondensed portion containing principally hydrogen; iii) sending the condensed portion to a stripping column (7) to produce a gaseous fraction at the head of the column comprising hydrogen and a liquid fraction at the base of the column containing carbon monoxide and methane; iv) distilling the liquid fraction in a purification column (9) to produce substantially pure carbon monoxide at the head of the column and methane at the base of the column; and v) supplying a portion of the separation energy by a refrigeration cycle using an autonomous refrigeration fluid.

Process and installation for the separation of a gaseous mixture

The heating and/or the cooling of the three columns is ensured by a closed nitrogen cycle. Carbon monoxide is withdrawn in liquid form from the third column, then is brought through a pump at the pressure of utilization and is warmed under this pressure.

Process and apparatus for the production of carbon monoxide and hydrogen

The liquid in the vat portion of the hydrogen withdrawing column is sub-cooled, expanded and divided into three flows: a first flow which is sent directly at about its bulb temperature into the column for separating CO and CH.sub.4, a second flow which is vaporized and warmed up to its dew point and is introduced at that temperature into the separation column and a third flow which is vaporized and warmed to a temperature which is intermediate between said bulb and dew temperatures and which is introduced into the separation column at that intermediate temperature.
