Method and apparatus for producing multi-segmented filaments are provided. In one embodiment a first polymer material is passed into a die, the first polymer material and the die being maintained under predetermined rheological conditions. Next, the first polymer material is extruded through a plurality of die openings in the die, the die openings arranged in a group, the group configured to form at least two elementary filaments. Then, the two elementary filaments are connected to one another by adhesion contact to form a multi-segmented filament. In another embodiment a die for producing multi-segmented filaments is provided. This die comprises a polymer source maintaining a polymer under predetermined rheological conditions. A die in communication with the polymer source, the die maintaining the polymer under predetermined rheological conditions and a die plate in fluid communication with the die, the die plate defining a first group of openings, the first group comprising a first opening and a second opening, the first opening and the second opening configured to form a first elementary fiber having a skin and a second elementary fiber having a skin.

Process of making multi-segmented filaments

Rectangular or round spinning nozzle packs for extruding thermoplastic filaments each have both melt channels and orifices for the higher melting polymer compound and also melt channels with orifices through which is passed a polymer compound that melts at a temperature 5 to 50.degree. C. lower. Variously designed insulation channels thermally separate these melt channels, which are operated at different temperatures.

A nonwoven lap of very fine continuous filaments, crimped or not, obtained by means of a controlled direct spinning process, with a weight between 5 g/m.sup.2 and 600 g/m.sup.2, and formed, after napping, of composite filaments separable in the direction of their length, characterized in that said composite filaments have a filament number between 0.3 dTex and 10 dTex and are formed, each, of at least three elementary filaments of at least two different materials and comprising between them at least one plane of separation or cleavage, each elementary filament having a filament number between 0.005 dTex and 2 dTex, the ratio between the cross-sectional area of each elementary filament and the total cross-sectional area of the unitary filament being between 0.5% and 90%.

A process for the production of a two-layer textile reinforcement for the production of bituminous sealing sheets for roofing consists first, from a first layer based on nonwoven cloth, in consolidating this nonwoven cloth by mechanical or hydraulic bonding and in thermostabilizing it. This first consolidated and thermostabilized layer is then assembled with a second mineral fiber layer, either by counter-gluing, or by needling, or by seam knitting. These two latter assembly methods are used only when the second mineral fiber layer is in the form of a grid or cloth of continuous or discontinuous mineral filaments. The first assembly method by counter-gluing is itself used no matter what the structure of the second mineral filament layer, whether it be in the form of a grid or a cloth of continuous or discontinuous mineral fibers or in the form of a scrim of mineral fibers.

Process for the production of two-layer textile reinforcement adapted

A process for the production of a non-woven sheet of continuous interconnected filaments, comprising producing biconstituted filaments of a size less than 4 dtex comprising two interconnected elemental filament components each of a different polymer, imparting to the biconstituted filaments a curl having a curling frequency of 3 to 30 curls per centimeter to impart to the filaments a bunching upon curling of 50 to 400%, and forming a non-woven sheet from the curled biconstituted filaments, the sheet having a weight of 10 to 400 g/m.sup.2. The non-woven sheet is then subjected to water jets supplied under a pressure of 50 to 300.times.10.sup.5 Pa to interlace and entangle the curled filaments constituting the sheet and to separate the interconnected filaments from each other.

Nonwovens of synthetic continuous filaments obtained by melt extrusion, in which at least 50% of the filaments contain at least from 0,5 to 3%, preferably from 0.6 to 1.5%, of a polyorganosiloxane introduced into the said filaments during their manufacture. Process for the manufacture of these nonwovens, in which, before extrusion of the polymer melt to produce the filaments by flowing through orifices of a die, a silicone oil of polyorganosiloxane type is introduced in the proportion at least of 0,5 to 3%, preferably from 0.6 to 1.5% relative to the polymer, into the melt of the latter. The polyorganosiloxane product employed is of the polydiorganosiloxane type with a molecular weight of between 1,000 and 250,000, preferably between 7,500 and 70,000, corresponding to dynamic viscosities of 50 to 10,000 mPa s; stable under extrusion conditions. Use of the nonwovens, chiefly as a support for floor coverings with stitched pile.

The present invention relates to a substrate based on nonwoven sheet for a flat article. The substrate 11, with good dimensional stability in all the conditions of production, of subsequent treatments and of use, comprising at least one nonwoven sheet 8 based on chemical textile material in the form of continuous fibres or filaments is characterized in that the said sheet comprises high-modulus reinforcing threads 3 arranged parallel to each other in its lengthwise direction. Glass threads are preferably employed as reinforcing threads. The reinforcing threads are combined with the nonwoven sheet by chemical bonding or heat-bonding and/or needling. Use of the support as a sealing membrane reinforcement, primary or secondary substrate for tuft carpeting, reinforcement for floor covering tiling, substrate for laying, substrate for flock, and the like.

Substrate based on a nonwoven sheet made of chemical textile

A process for the treatment of non-woven sheets made of synthetic textiles containing two constituents arranged side-by-side, one based on polyamide (polyhexamethyleneadipamide) and the other based on polyester (polyethylene glycol terephthalate), in which the following steps are carried out: (a) conversion to a sheet of the crimped textile having an overall linear density of less than 2 dtex, (b) optional needle bonding of the sheet, and (c) chemical treatment at low temperature in an aqueous solution of a swelling product for one of the constituents, permitting contraction and at least partial separation of the two constituents of the textile, the strands of which each then have a denier of less than 1 dtex. Swelling product: aqueous solution of formic acid at a concentration of 50% to 70%, preferably of between 55% and 65%, and at a temperature of between 5.degree. C. and 40.degree. C., preferably of between 18.degree. C. and 25.degree. C. The non-woven sheets obtained, having characteristics enabling them to be used in the majority of textile applications such as clothing, furnishing and the like.
