A method for using a composition for use as rock dust in an underground mine is disclosed. The composition includes a fine, wet ground inorganic particulate material treated with at least one hydrophobic treatment, and a coarse, untreated, dry ground inorganic particulate material. Also disclosed is a composition including coal dust and mine rock dust including a fine, wet ground inorganic particulate material treated with at least one hydrophobic treatment, and a coarse, untreated, dry ground inorganic particulate material. The amount of mine rock dust may be sufficient to render the coal dust explosively inert according to at least one of a 20-L explosibility test or an ASTM E1515 explosibility test. The fine, wet ground inorganic particulate material may be calcium carbonate. The coarse, untreated inorganic particulate material may be calcium carbonate. The fatty acid may be stearic acid.

The present invention relates to sintered platelet-like randomly shaped abrasive particles based on alpha alumina having a hardness Hof at least 20 GPa and a crystal structure with an average crystal size between 100 nm and 300 nm, whereby the abrasive particles comprise a body having a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, both surfaces are separated from each other by a randomly shaped sidewall having a thickness (T) between 20 &#x3bc;m and 500 &#x3bc;m.

Heat treated alumina zirconia abrasive grains based on AlOand ZrOmay be fused in an electric arc furnace, and may have a weight content of: AlObetween 52% and 62% by weight; ZrOand HfObetween 35% and 45% by weight, with at least 6% by weight based on the total weight content of ZrObeing present in the tetragonal and/or cubic high temperature modifications of ZrO; Si-compounds between 0.2% and 0.7% by weight expressed as SiO; carbon between 0.03% and 0.5% by weight; additives between 0.5% and 10% by weight; and raw-material-based impurities of less than 3% by weight. The heat treated alumina zirconia abrasive grains may be heat treated in air between 350&#xb0; C. and 700&#xb0; C. for a time period of one to six hours using a rotary kiln.
