The installation comprises mainly a reactor (1) for the gasification of powdered coal on a bath (2) of liquid iron, a cooling flue (9) constituting a boiler connecting the outlet of the reactor (1) to a vapor superheater (11) fed with vapor (26) issuing from the boiler, a dust-removing cyclone (13) connected to the outlet of the superheater (11), a thermal exchanger (14) connected to the outlet of the cyclone (13) in which a drying fluid (31, 32)is heated by thermal exchange with the combustible gas, a conditioning tower (16) connected to the outlet of the thermal exchanger, the conditioning tower being connected to a dry electrofilter (17) which feeds a storage gasometer (20) through a three-way valve (21). The electrode structure, embedded in a refractory lining (1) covering the wall (2) of a vessel containing the bath (5) of metal, flush at one (4) of its ends with the inner surface of the refractory lining and projecting at its other end (6) out of the vessel, is of the type comprising an electrically conductive central core (3) extending through the wall (3) of the vessel and a cooling jacket (11) disposed around the central core (3) and in close contact therewith. The feature of the electrode structure is that the central core (3) is connected by its end (6) outside the vessel to an electric supply terminal (7), the zone of the central core (3) adjacent to the outer end (6) and in facing relation to the cooling jacket (11) being electrically insulated from the cooling jacket.

The plate comprises a cast iron element of substantially parallelepipedic shape. This invention relates to a cooling installation for a blast furnace using stave coolers in which circulates a cooling fluid, these staves being arranged in successive superimposed rings along the internal wall of the shell of the blast furnace and being traversed by internal fluid circulation tubes, the internal tubes of two staves adjacent in a vertical plane being interconnected so as to define a network of vertical fluid circulation lines, wherein this network is connected at each of its extremities to an external circulation and fluid cooling circuit defining a pressurized forced closed circuit in which the cooling fluid is maintained in the liquid phase.

A unit for diversion of a gas which may be hot, dust-laden, saturated with water vapor and containing water droplets, e.g. from steelworks converters, the unit enabling at one and the same time the flow of gases which it receives tangentially and horizontally from the gas collecting network (8) to be caused to flow either into a first vertical duct (14) directed upwards or into a second vertical duct (3) directed downwards, the water droplets and consequently part of the dust to be eliminated, and simultaneously gastightness to be ensured towards that one of these two ducts which is at the moment not being fed with gas, this unit being characterized in that it comprises a fixed body (1) containing a movable bell (2) capable of forming a water seal to ensure gastightness alternatively towards each of the two vertical ducts (14) (3), and in that the fixed body (1) being of special shape cooperates with the bell (2) in order to form a cyclone which eliminates the water droplets and part of the dust contained in the gas at the inlet to the body (1).

Product for the desulphurization of cast irons and steels

The device permits the fixing of a stave plate to the armour shell of the blast furnace by means of a washer and a cup-shaped ring which are welded externally both to the shell and to protecting sleeves for inner water circulating tubes which are extended to outside the shell. The sealing is achieved by the interposition under compression of a preformed flexible apertured rectangular joint element and a preformed circular joint element of silicone elastomer or like plastics material, between the shell and the stave plate with adhesion on the bearing faces. It is completed by an injected mass and an annular joint element between the water circulating tubes and the corresponding protecting sleeves. The device is completed by the provision of packing products respectively between the inner wall of the shell and the stave plates and in gaps between two adjacent stave plates.
