A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, including silicon oxide particles, wherein the silicon oxide has a full width at half maximum peak ranging between 2 and 6 in a particle size distribution and the silicon oxide particles have an average particle size (D50) of 1 μm to 20 μm, and a negative electrode and a lithium secondary battery comprising the same. The negative electrode active material according to the disclosure has outstanding life performance and output performance.

A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery including complex particles including silicon oxide particles doped with a metal of lithium, magnesium, calcium or aluminum, a linear conductive material disposed between the doped silicon oxide particles, and a carbon-based binder that hinds the doped silicon oxide particles and the conductive material together. The carbon-based binder is a result of sintering a carbon-based precursor. A method of preparing the negative electrode active material, a negative electrode and a lithium secondary battery are also provided. The negative electrode active material according to the present disclosure is superior at least in initial efficiency and life characteristics.

A negative electrode for a lithium secondary battery including a negative electrode active material layer. The negative electrode active material layer is formed by steps of coating a negative electrode mixture slurry including spheroidized natural graphite particles as a negative electrode active material on at least one surface of a negative electrode current collector, followed by drying and pressing the negative electrode mixture slurry on the at least one surface of the negative electrode current collector. The spheroidized natural graphite particles include a plurality of pores. The negative electrode active material layer has a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area of the negative electrode active material layer after the pressing is larger than a BET specific surface area of the negative electrode active material layer before pressing. A difference in the BET specific surface area before and after pressing ranges from 0.9 m/g to 1.2 m/g.

A method for pre-lithiation of a negative electrode is disclosed, including the steps of: producing a lithium metal laminate which includes i) lithium metal foil; and ii) a buffer layer including carbonaceous material particles, inorganic compound particles, polymer compound particles or their combination, and coated on one surface of the lithium metal foil; producing a negative electrode including a negative electrode current collector, and a negative electrode active material layer formed on at least one surface of the negative electrode current collector; and laminating the lithium metal laminate with the negative electrode in such a manner that the buffer layer of the lithium metal laminate is in contact with the negative electrode active material layer. A lithium metal laminate used for the method is also provided. The pre-lithiation of a negative electrode that includes a buffer layer reduces the problem of rapid volumetric swelling occurring.

The lithium secondary battery using the negative electrode active material can retain conductivity even after charge/discharge and can be prevented from degradation of cycle characteristic.

Negative electrode active material, negative electrode including the same and lithium secondary battery including the same

A negative electrode active material including a core, an intermediate layer on a surface of the core, and a shell layer on a surface of the intermediate layer, wherein the core includes a silicon oxide of SiO(0&#x3c;x&#x3c;2); the intermediate layer includes a lithium silicate, the shell layer includes lithium fluoride (LiF) and the intermediate layer is present in an amount of 5 wt %-15 wt % based on a total weight of the negative electrode active material. The negative electrode material includes a silicon oxide material containing a metal (M)-silicate and a carbonaceous material. According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the negative electrode material may include the silicon oxide material containing a metal (M)-silicate and the carbonaceous material mixed with each other at a predetermined ratio. The negative electrode active material according to the present disclosure comprises a composite of a carbonaceous material having a broad particle size distribution with a metal-silicate, and thus provides improved electrical conductivity and life characteristics.
