Provided are a method for image prediction of a multi-view video codec capable of improving coding efficiency, and a computer readable recording medium therefor. The method for image prediction of a multi-view video codec includes partitioning an image to a plurality of base blocks, acquiring information of reference images which are temporally different, acquiring information of reference images which have different views, and predicting a target block based on the acquired information. Accordingly, an image that is most similar to an image of a view to be currently compressed is generated using multiple images of different views, so that coding efficiency can be improved.

Disclosed herein is an adaptive motion estimation and mode decision apparatus and method for an H.264 video codec. The apparatus includes a background image detection unit, an inter mode inspection unit, an intra mode inspection unit and a mode inspection skip unit. The background image detection unit inspects whether a fixed background or slowly and regularly moving block exists, and skips the step of dividing a first corresponding macroblock into smaller sized blocks and performing block mode inspection. The present invention relates to an intermediate image synthesizing method using a mesh based on a multi-view square camera structure. In accordance with the present invention, an accurate disparity vector may be obtained since a shared area is searched for a predetermined time interval using a distance matching and a synthesized image is generated for each area based thereon, an occlusion region is reduced by using three reference images, the synthesized image may be easily generated even for an image having a large disparity, and a converted outline may be accurately expressed, and a high three-dimensional effect may be represented due to the image conversion through the mesh based on a vertex of the outline.
