A transfer unit, which transfers a toner image formed on at least one image support to a printing medium, and an image forming apparatus employing the same. The transfer unit includes: an intermediate transfer body to the toner image from the image support, which has a curved transfer surface and an ASKER-A hardness of from about 25&#xb0; to 40&#xb0;; a transfer member, which has an ASKER-C hardness of from about 45&#xb0; to 70&#xb0;, and which contacts the intermediate transfer body, with a printing medium being interposed therebetween, and transfers the toner image from the intermediate transfer body to the printing medium. The transfer unit may further include: a de-electrifying member having a DC power and an AC power concurrently applied thereto, to de-electrify the printing.

Transfer unit and image forming apparatus employing the same

A laser scanning unit includes a housing; an optical system disposed in the housing and including an optical source which emits a laser beam, a polygonal mirror which scans the laser beam, and a plurality of optical elements which image the laser beam on an image surface; a motor disposed in the housing and which rotates the polygonal mirror; and a motor drive chip disposed outside of the housing and which uses a sensorless algorithm to control a rotation speed of the motor.

Laser scanning unit

A hydrodynamic bearing having an improved air discharging path for discharging air from the bearing when a shaft is inserted into the bearing, and an apparatus for driving a polygonal mirror using the hydrodynamic bearing. The hydrodynamic bearing includes: a bearing housing having a hollow portion filled with oil, and first and second stepped mounting recesses formed at one end of the hollow portion; a thrust plate installed in the first mounting recess so that one surface of the thrust plate is in contact with one end of the shaft, for supporting the shaft in a thrust direction, a diameter of the thrust plate being smaller than that of the first mounting recess: a first air discharging path formed at the thrust plate and/or the first mounting recess, for discharging air out of an inside of the bearing housing; a cap installed in the second mounting recess, for supporting a lower portion of the thrust plate; and a second air discharging path formed at the cap for communicating with the first air discharging path through a space between the thrust plate and the first mounting recess to discharge outwardly the air transferred from the first air discharging path.
