There are provided rolls comprising an air and water barrier article having opposing first and second major surfaces, a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on at least the first major surface of the article, and a liner having a first major surface that contacts the opposing second major surface of the article, and at least two adhesion modifying zones disposed between the second major surface of the article and the first major surface of the liner, wherein both of a first and second adhesion modifying zones contact the first major surface of the liner, and wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive contacts a second major surface of the liner when wound in the roll. There are also provided films made using these air and water barrier articles and building envelopes made using such films.

Air and water barrier articles

A pressure sensitive adhesive composition is described that comprises a (meth)acrylic polymer comprising polymerized units of (meth)acrylic ester monomer having a Tg less than 0&#xb0; C. and ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising a pendent functional group crosslinked with an amine or carboxylic acid group of at least one amino acid. Also described are aqueous pressure sensitive adhesive compositions, adhesive-coated articles, and methods.

Pressure sensitive adhesive comprising (meth)acrylic polymer and amino acid crosslinker

A film is described comprising a (meth)acrylic polymer and a polyvinyl acetal (e.g. butyral) resin. In some embodiments, the film has a glass transition temperature (i.e. Tg) ranging from 30&#xb0; C. to 60&#xb0; C. In some embodiments, the film has a gel content of at least 20% or greater. In some embodiments, the film has an elongation at break of at least 175%. The film typically comprises photoinitiator as a result of the method by which the film was made. The film may be a monolithic film or a layer of a multilayer film.

Acrylic polyvinyl acetal films and composition

Curable compositions, cured compositions, articles containing the curable or cured compositions, and methods of making the articles are provided. More particularly, the curable compositions contain a (meth)acrylate-based polymer having pendant (meth)acryloyl groups, at least one monomer having a single ethylenically unsaturated group, a photoinitiator that includes an acyl phosphine oxide, and a thixotropic agent. The curable compositions can be printed or dispensed, if desired, and the cured compositions are pressure-sensitive adhesives.

Curable compositions for pressure-sensitive adhesives

An adhesive article comprising first and second tacky latent adhesive layers disposed on respective first and second opposed major surfaces of a substrate. Each of the first and second tacky latent adhesive layers independently comprises at least one polymerizable component, and a redox initiator system comprising a transition metal complex that participates in a redox cycle, an oxidizing agent, and a blocked reducing agent represented by the formula ((I). Each of Rand Rare independently H, an alkyl, an aryl, or RPhoto5 with the proviso that at least one of R1 and Ris RPhoto. Rrepresents a photoremovable group. Each of Rand Rindependently represents H, an alkyl group, or an aryl group comprising a monovalent ester, ether, urethane, or carbonate group. Methods of making and using the adhesive articles are also disclosed. 

Adhesive article and methods of making and using the same

A method of making an adhesive is provided, including obtaining an actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition disposed against a surface of an actinic radiation-transparent substrate and irradiating a first portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a first irradiation dosage. The method further includes irradiating a second portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a second irradiation dosage. The first portion and the second portion are adjacent to or overlapping with each other and the first irradiation dosage and the second irradiation dosage are not the same. The method forms an integral adhesive having a variable thickness in an axis normal to the surface of the actinic radiation-transparent substrate. Also, an adhesive article is provided, including a substrate having a major surface and an integral adhesive disposed on the major surface of the substrate. Further, methods are provided, including receiving, by a manufacturing device having one or more processors, a digital object comprising data specifying an article; and generating, with the manufacturing device by an additive manufacturing process, the article based on the digital object. A system is provided, including a display that displays a 3D model of an article; and one or more processors that, in response to the 3D model selected by a user, cause a 3D printer to create a physical object of an article.

Additive manufacturing methods for adhesives and adhesive articles

An acrylic adhesive derived from the reaction product of (i) an acrylic acid ester of monohydric alcohol having an alkyl group of 5 to 10 carbon atoms; and (ii) a nonpolar acrylic monomer having a solubility of less than 9.2 as measured with the Fedors method using a homopolymer of the nonpolar acrylic monomer. The acrylic adhesive possesses performance characteristics that enable the adhesive to function in certain embodiments as a pressure-sensitive adhesive for applications involving articles that are sensitive to delamination or tearing upon removal of the adhesive from the article.

Crosslinkable polymeric materials, crosslinked polymeric materials, articles containing the crosslinkable polymeric materials or crosslinked polymeric materials, and methods of making the articles and various compositions are provided. More particularly, the crosslinkable composition contains a) a first polymeric material, which has terminal dithiocarbamate or dithiocarbonate groups, b) a crosslinking composition containing a chlorinated triazine crosslinking agent and/or a crosslinking monomer having two or more ethylenically unsaturated groups, and c) a thixotropic agent containing metal oxide particles. The crosslinkable composition may be printable or dispensed. In some embodiments, the crosslinked composition is a pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Polymeric compositions prepared with a controlled radical initiator

Described herein is a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising a high molecular weight fluorinated polymer having a Tg less than about 0&#xb0; C. and a number average molecular weight greater than about 20 kilograms/mole; and a low molecular weight fluorinated polymer derived from an ethylenically unsaturated fluorinated monomer, wherein the low molecular weight fluorinated polymer has a Tg greater than about &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. and a number average molecular weight less than about 18 kilograms/mole. Also described herein are articles comprising the pressure sensitive adhesive composition.

Fluorinated pressure sensitive adhesives and articles thereof

Pressure sensitive adhesive comprising (meth) acrylic polymer and amino acid crosslinker

There are provided rolls comprising an air and water barrier article having opposing first and second major surfaces, a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on at least the first major surface of the article, and a liner having a first major surface that contacts the opposing second major surface of the article, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive contacts a second major surface of the liner when wound in the roll. There are also provided self adhering air and water barrier articles and building envelopes made using the presently disclosed rolls.

Easy to apply air and water barrier articles

A pressure-sensitive adhesive is provided that is a dried product of a latex composition, which is formed from an emulsion composition. The latex composition and the emulsion composition are also provided. The emulsion composition has droplets that contain various monomers plus a (meth)acrylate polymer and a hydrogenated hydrocarbon tackifier dissolved in the monomers. Additionally, an article containing a layer of the pressure-sensitive adhesive and a method of forming the pressure-sensitive adhesive are provided. The pressure-sensitive adhesives often have both high peel adhesion and high shear strength (i.e., high cohesive strength or high shear holding power).

Water-based pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions

Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are described comprising at least one low Tg ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and at least one silsesquioxane polymer crosslinker comprising a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated groups. The low Tg ethylenically unsaturated monomer typically has a Tg no greater than 10&#xb0; C. In some embodiments, the composition comprises at least 50, 55, 60, 65, or 70 wt-% of low Tg ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The low Tg ethylenically unsaturated monomer is typically an alkyl (meth)acrylate comprising 4 to 20 carbon atoms. In another embodiment, an adhesive composition is described comprising a syrup. The syrup comprising i) a free-radically polymerizable solvent monomer; ii) a solute (meth)acrylic polymer comprising polymerized units derived from one or more alkyl (meth)acrylate monomers, and iii) at least one silsesquioxane polymer crosslinker comprising a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated groups. The free-radically polymerizable solvent monomer, polymerized units of the solute (meth)acrylic polymer, or a combination thereof comprise a low Tg ethylenically unsaturated monomer. Also described are pressure sensitive adhesive articles and method of preparing adhesive articles.
