A maintenance liquid for inkjet printers includes at least 50 wt % of at least one ether solvent according to Formula (I) or (II) with the wt % based on the total weight of the maintenance liquid:R(CO)(OR)OR&#x2003;&#x2003;Formula (I), andRCO(OR)OCOR&#x2003;&#x2003;Formula (II), wherein R, Rand Rindependently represent an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Rrand Rindependently represent an ethylene group or a propylene group; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; x represents an integer of 0 or 1; y and z independently represent an integer of 1 to 4; and wherein the maintenance liquid contains no more than 25 ppm of peroxide expressed as hydrogen peroxide.

A polymerizable Norrish Type II photoinitiator according to Formula (I): Radiation curable compositions and inkjet inks containing the polymerizable Norrish Type II photoinitiator of Formula (I) exhibit improved compatibility with and solubility in radiation curable compositions and inkjet inks, and exhibit low extractable amounts of the photoinitiator and its residues after curing.

A polymerizable Norrish Type II photoinitiators includes an optionally substituted benzophenone group or an optionally substituted thioxanthone group exhibiting improved compatibility with and solubility in radiation curable compositions. Radiation curable compositions and inkjet inks can contain these polymerizable Norrish Type II photoinitiators, exhibiting low extractable amounts of the photoinitiators and their residues after curing.

Polymerizable photoinitiators and radiation curable compositions

A polymerizable photoinitiator is represented by Formula (I): wherein R1, R2 and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkyl group and an optionally substituted aryl group or R1 and R3 represent the necessary atoms to form a five to eight membered ring; p, w, y and z are all integers with y representing a value 1 to 6; p representing the sum of w and z; p representing a value of 1 to 6; w=1 to (p&#x2212;z) and z=0 to (p&#x2212;w); L represents an optionally substituted (p+y)-valent linking group comprising 1 to 14 carbon atoms; A represents a radically polymerizable group selected from the group consisting of an acrylate group, a methacrylate group, a styrene group, an acryl amide group, a methacryl amide group, a maleate group, a fumarate group, an itaconate group, a vinyl ether group, an allyl ether group, an allyl ester group and a vinyl ester group; and X represents a photoinitiating moiety including at least one group capable of initiating a free radical polymerization reaction upon exposure to actinic radiation.

Polymerizable type II photoinitiators and curable compositions

A multifunctional Type II photoinitiator according to Formula (I): wherein X represents a structural moiety according to Formula (II): wherein:A represents a Norrish Type II initiating group; and L represents a divalent linking group positioning the Norrish Type II initiating group A and the CR2R3-group in a 1-5 to a 1-9 position wherein position 1 is defined as the first atom in the aromatic or alicyclic ring of A to which L is covalently bonded and the position 5 to 9 is defined as the carbon atom of the CR2R3-group to which L is covalently bonded, with the proviso that L does not contain an amine. Radiation curable compositions and inks include the multifunctional Type II photoinitiator.

Multifunctional type II photoinitiators and curable compositions

A radiation curable composition comprising a curable compound, a photo-initiator and a co-initiator characterized in that said co-initiator is represented by Formula I, wherein MA is the residue of a mono- or oligofunctional Michael acceptor; L is a divalent linking group positioning the two tertiary amines in a 1-3 to 1-10 position, with the proviso that both amines are aliphatic; R1, R2 and R3 independently represent an optionally substituted alkyl group, an optionally substituted alkenyl group , an optionally substituted alkynyl group or an optionally substituted (hetero) alkaryl group; any two of R1, R2 and R3 may represent the necessary atoms to form a ring; any two of R1, R2 and R3 may represent the necessary atoms to form a ring with any of the atoms of the linking group L; n is an integer ranging from 1 to 6.

Amine co-initiators for radiation curable compositions

A novel polymeric initiator is disclosed comprising a dendritic polymer core with at least one initiating functional group as an end group. The dendritic polymeric core is preferably a hyperbranched polymer. The polymeric initiators are useful in radiation curable compositions such as varnishes, lacquers and printing inks and are especially useful in radiation curable inkjet inks.

A radiation curable composition comprising a novel photoreactive polymer is disclosed comprising a dendritic polymer core with at least one initiating functional group and at least one co-initiating functional group. Suitable radiation curable compositions are varnishes, lacquers, printing inks and radiation curable ink-jet inks. The dendritic polymeric core is preferably a hyperbranched polymer.

Radiation curable compositions with a polymeric co-initiator are disclosed comprising a dendritic polymer core with at least one co-initiating functional group as an end group. The dendritic polymeric core is preferably a hyperbranched polymer. Industrial applications include varnishes, lacquers and printing inks. The polymeric co-initiator is especially useful in radiation curable inkjet ink.
