The present disclosure provides systems and methods for guiding a vertical takeoff and landing, VTOL, vehicle to an emergency landing zone. The systems and methods include determining, via at least one processor, candidate landing zone data by interrogating an emergency landing zone database based at least on VTOL vehicle location, the candidate landing zone data representing a list of candidate emergency landing zones. A target emergency landing zone is selected from the list of candidate emergency landing zones based at least on VTOL vehicle related issues including at least one of unanticipated yaw issues, ground effect issues and modified trend vector issues, thereby providing target emergency landing zone data. Guidance for the VTOL vehicle is determined based on the target emergency landing zone data.

Systems and methods for guiding a vertical takeoff and landing vehicle to an emergency landing zone

A method for providing circling approach data onboard an aircraft is disclosed. For a current, circling approach of the aircraft to a destination airport, the method identifies a circling approach procedure applicable to an optimal runway, by a processor communicatively coupled to a system memory element configured to store a database of circling approach procedures and a source for temporary restrictions; determines a circling boundary to the optimal runway, based on the circling approach procedure; determines temporary circling restrictions for the aircraft, based on conflicting traffic from at least a second airport; constructs a lateral path and a vertical path to guide the aircraft to the optimal runway of the destination airport, based on the circling approach procedure, the circling boundary, and the temporary circling restrictions; and presents graphical elements and text associated with the circling approach procedure, the circling boundary, and the temporary restrictions, by a display device.

Systems and methods for providing circling approach data onboard an aircraft

The disclosure is directed to techniques that use a data communication system such as ADS-B to provide an output to alert an aircraft operator of an incorrect barometric pressure setting for a pressure altimeter, and provide the correct altimeter setting. For example, the system may compile the ADS-B Out data from other aircraft operating near a first aircraft to provide the barometric pressure setting in use by the other aircraft. A system of this disclosure may identify the altimeter setting used by majority of the other aircraft in a region of airspace. If a first aircraft's current barometric altimeter setting is different from the setting of the majority of the nearby aircraft, then the system may generate an output to alert the operator of the first aircraft of a potential incorrect altimeter setting as well as provide a suggested barometric altimeter setting.

Detecting an incorrect altimeter setting

A vehicle system includes a control unit with a weather module configured to receive weather data and to identify a wind shear zone at a location based on the weather data, the weather module further configured to generate wind shear coordinate data and wind shear characteristic data based on the weather data. The control unit further includes a display module configured to generate display commands based on the wind shear coordinate data and wind shear characteristic data from the weather module. The vehicle system further includes a display device coupled to receive the display commands from the control unit and configured to display a three-dimensional forward perspective view corresponding to a vehicle environment. The display device is further configured to display first wind shear symbology within the view at a position that indicates the location of the wind shear zone.

Aircraft systems and methods for displaying wind shear

A method for presenting weather information onboard an aircraft is provided. The method obtains a first set of weather data from aircraft onboard radar system; obtains a second set of weather data from external sources including one or more external aircraft, a satellite, a remote server, and a ground-based weather station, wherein the communication device is compatible a communication protocol for the external sources, and wherein the communication protocol comprises at least one of a datalink communication protocol, a satellite communication protocol, a very high frequency (VHF) radio communication protocol, and a transponder communication protocol; and presents graphical elements comprising a first set of graphical elements associated with the first set of weather data and a second set of graphical elements associated with the second set of weather data, wherein the second set of graphical elements include visual characteristics distinguishable from the first set of graphical elements.

Methods and systems for providing live weather data onboard an aircraft

A flight display system or method in accordance with this disclosure involves the presentation, on an aircraft, of a 'quick preview' notice to airmen ('NOTAM') display that includes a plurality of stacked flight route portion boxes, each of the plurality of flight route portion boxes pertaining to and being labeled as one of: a departure taxiing portion, a standard instrument departure portion, an en route portion, a standard terminal arrival route portion, an approach portion, and an arrival taxiing portion; each of the plurality of flight route portion boxes graphically displaying flight route symbology pertaining to and labeled as each airport taxiing reference point and/or each aeronautical waypoint that falls within its labeled flight route portion; and wherein at least one of the plurality of flight route portion boxes further graphically displays NOTAM symbology pertaining to at least one of the NOTAMs that are relevant to the flight route.

Systems and methods for displaying quick preview notices to airmen

This disclosure is directed to methods, systems, and computer program products for automated avoidance of ground threats by an aircraft. In one example, a method includes determining, by one or more processing devices, whether a sufficient evasive maneuver for an aircraft to avoid a detected ground surface threat is performed via pilot controls of the aircraft within a selected threshold after an alert of the ground surface threat is outputted via one or more cockpit systems of the aircraft. The method further includes, in response to determining that a sufficient evasive maneuver via the pilot controls is not performed within the selected threshold, controlling, by the one or more processing devices, one or more flight systems of the aircraft to perform an automated evasive maneuver to avoid the ground surface threat.
