A device and method are provided to facilitate the handling of a volume of fluid. The device includes an elongated tube having an open first end and a second end. The tube defines a reservoir for receiving the volume of fluid. A stanchion has a first end received within the reservoir of the tube and a second end projecting from the open end of the elongated tube. In operation, the elongated tube is deposited in a first capsule having fluid therein. The first capsule is centrifuged such that the volume of fluid is received in a reservoir in the tube through the open end. The tube is removed from the first capsule and positioned in a second capsule such that the open end of the tube is spaced from a closed end of the second capsule. The second capsule is centrifuged such that the volume of fluid is expelled from the reservoir of the tube.

Method of facilitating the handling of a volume of fluid

A device and method are provided to facilitate the handling of a volume or fluid. The device includes an elongated tube having an open first end and a second end. The tube defines a reservoir for receiving the volume or fluid. The second capsule is centrifuged such that the volume of fluid is expelled from the reservoir of the tube.

Device and method to facilitate the prepackaging, handling and use of small volumes of fluids

A device is provided for the administration of a compound in a body. The device includes a capsule having a reservoir therein for receiving the compound therein and a delivery instrument for positioning the capsule within the body. The delivery instrument includes a barrel having an interior adapted to receive the capsule therein and a dispersal element interacting with the barrel to selectively expel the capsule therefrom and into the body. A diffusion regulator communicates with the reservoir and controls the diffusion of the compound from the reservoir into the body. A retention structure projects from capsule and is configured to retain the capsule at a desired location within the body. Multiple devices may be used in conjunction to provide a multiplexed point source to administer multiple compounds simultaneously in vivo.

Microfluidic device for multiplexed point source administration of compounds

A device and method of laminar flow patterning of at least one sample fluid in a main channel in a microfluidic device are provided. A first input channel is provided in the microfluidic device. The first input channel has an output end communicating with the first end of the main channel and an input end communicating with a first input port. A buffer fluid is deposited in the main channel and the first input channel and a first sample fluid is deposited in the first input port. A first pressure is generated in response to the depositing of the first sample fluid in the first input port so as to cause laminar flow of the first sample fluid in the main channel.

Method and device for controlled laminar flow patterning within a channel

A microwell device is provided. The device includes a plate having a upper surface. The upper surface has first and second recesses formed therein. Each recess has an outer periphery. First and second portions of microwells are formed in upper surface of the plate. The first portion of microwells are spaced about the outer periphery of the first recess and the second portion of microwells spaced about the outer periphery of the first recess. A first barrier is about a first portions of the microwells for fluidicly isolating the first portion of the microwells and a second barrier about a second portions of microwells for fluidicly isolating the second portion of the microwells.

A method is provided for collecting a concentration of particles from a sample fluid containing the particles. The method includes the steps of providing a microfluidic device. The microfluidic device includes an input channel, an output channel and a collection region. The input channel has an input end and an output end. The output channel has an input end and an output end. The collection region interconnects the output end of the input channel and the input end of the output channel. The sample fluid flows through the input channel and the output channel at a first velocity and through the collection region at a second velocity less than the first velocity such that the particles collect in therein.

Method of collecting particles from a sample fluid by arranging the particles to settle and collect in a collecting portion of a collecting region

A method is provided for pumping fluid through a channel of a microfluidic device. The channel has an input port and an output port. The channel is filled with fluid and a pressure gradient is generated between the fluid at the input port and the fluid at the output port. As a result, fluid flows through the channel towards the output port.

Method of pumping fluid through a microfluidic device

A microfluidic device and method is provided for coupling discrete channels and for co-culture. The microfluidic device includes first and second bodies. Each body has a bottom surface and defines a channel. The channel in each body includes an inlet and an outlet communicating with the bottom surface. A first fluid, such as a first cell suspension, is provided within the channel of the first body and a second fluid, such a second cell suspension, is provided within the channel of the second body. The first and second bodies are movable between a first position wherein the outlet of the channel of the first body is spaced from the inlet of the channel of the second body and a second position wherein the fluid at the outlet of the channel of the first body communicates with the fluid at the inlet of the channel of the second body.
