Systems and methods that provide Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) technologies that equip cyber-defenders with new capabilities to autonomously respond to network and host-based system alerts, threat hunting results, and cyber intelligence data streams. Systems and methods provide a novel SOAR approach for networked systems where such networked systems include PCDS systems such as DERs. System may ingest data from multiple Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) to quickly block attacks and revert PCDS systems to known good states via a collection of IDS technologies including Bump-in-the-Wire (BITW) devices which incorporate physical and cyber data to detect abnormal and potential malicious behaviors.

Systems and methods for blocking, detecting and responding to cyber attacks in physically controlled distributed systems

Advanced Distribution Management Systems not generally optimize over the entire feeder because there are few high-fidelity distribution circuit models and real-time distribution-connected sensors are rare. The limited observability at the distribution level makes it difficult to globally optimize distribution operations and issue control setpoints to power systems equipment or Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to perform grid-support services. For example, setpoints can be issued to DER based on results from an optimization module that incorporates a static or time-series feeder simulation. Feeder simulation initial conditions are populated with photovoltaic (PV) and load forecasts, state estimation results, and/or digital twin measurements or state output. The real-time (RT) digital twin runs a model of the feeder to generate state estimation pseudo-measurements since there are limited live feeder measurements.

Digital twin advanced distribution management systems (ADMS) and methods

Extensive deployment of interoperable distributed energy resources (DER) on power systems is increasing the power system cybersecurity attack surface. National and jurisdictional interconnection standards require DER to include a range of autonomous and commanded grid-support functions which can drastically influence power quality, voltage, and the generation-load balance. Investigations of the impact to the power system in scenarios where communications and operations of DER are controlled by an adversary show that each grid-support function exposes the power system to distinct types and magnitudes of risk. The invention provides methods for minimizing the risks to distribution and transmission systems using an engineered control system which detects and mitigates unsafe control commands.

Systems and methods for detecting and mitigating cyber attacks on power systems comprising distributed energy resources

Systems, methods and computer program products for maintaining and controlling distributed energy resources (DERs), such as wind, solar, water and storage renewable energy resources, within an acceptable error margin are disclosed. The systems and processes control the energy output of these DERs in real time within the error margin.

Systems, methods and computer program products for electric grid control

The present invention relates to systems for generating an arc fault in an electrical circuit, as well as methods thereof. In particular, the system provides a platform that can produce an arc discharge in a controlled manner, while measuring various parameters to characterize that discharge. Such parameters include voltage measurements, current measurements, optical spectroscopy measurements, electron temperatures, and/or plasma temperatures.

Arc plasma-generating systems and methods thereof

An apparatus, method, and system for detecting arc-faults in a photovoltaic array are disclosed. Further, the detection not only identifies that an arc-fault is present in the array, but also classifies whether the arc-fault is a series type arc-fault or a parallel type arc-fault. Upon determination of the specific type of arc-fault that is at issue, de-energizing the arc-fault specific to the type is selected and carried out.

Identifying an arc-fault type in photovoltaic arrays

The various technologies presented herein relate to providing prognosis and health management (PHM) of a photovoltaic (PV) system. A PV PHM system can eliminate long-standing issues associated with detecting performance reduction in PV systems. The PV PHM system can utilize an ANN model with meteorological and power input data to facilitate alert generation in the event of a performance reduction without the need for information about the PV PHM system components and design. Comparisons between system data and the PHM model can provide scheduling of maintenance on an as-needed basis. The PHM can also provide an approach for monitoring system/component degradation over the lifetime of the PV system.

Prognostics and health management of photovoltaic systems

The present invention relates to photovoltaic systems capable of identifying the location of an arc-fault. In particular, such systems include a unique filter connected to each photovoltaic (PV) string, thereby providing a unique filtered noise profile associated with a particular PV string. Also described herein are methods for identifying and isolating such arc-faults.
