An integrated system for: complete waste compactor/container operational control; remote fullness monitoring; and, remote performance and maintenance diagnostics. Such diagnostic information is transferred wirelessly or otherwise to one or more recipients, so as to directly provide a critical warning in real time. The waste compactor/container controller/monitor system allows for periodic substantially real-time oil viscosity measurements of the hydraulic fluid to account for changes in such viscosity. The system adjusts the timing of the compactor stroke to permit more efficient operation and inhibit damage to the hydraulic ram and/or container during use. The system provides for the monitoring and communication of substantially all aspects of compactor operation both on-site and remotely.

Systems for remote management of a network of waste containers

A method and system for remotely managing a network of one or more waste compactor containers, each of which is associated with a monitoring unit and has a set of operating parameters including a container pick-up level. The method and system further allow for the container pick-up level to be variably adjusted based upon one or more preselected conditions. When the present indication of compactor container fullness meets or exceed the presently adjusted pick-up level, a container pick-up request is generated. The variable adjustment of the container pick-up level, generally, takes the form of a setback amount, which alters the amount of compactor container fullness necessary for generating a pick-up request. The setback amount provides an automated approach for handling previously known interruptions or changes in container pick-up services.

System and method for variably adjusting the pick-up level of one or more waste compactor containers

An elongate, flexible sensor for sensing an electrically conductive liquid, such as water, has two flexible electrodes extending along the sensor and two flexible sleeves extending therealong and being attached adhesively to each other along the sensor. Each electrode is a ribbon made from a carbon-filled, silicone rubber material. Each sleeve extends around an associated one of the electrodes and is braided from a filamentary, polyester material so as to define multiple apertures enabling such a liquid reaching the sensor to pass through the sleeves so as to cause a short circuit between the electrodes.

A device is disclosed for sensing any of a wide range of liquid hydrocarbons. A ribbon-like sensor is employed, which has an inner, silicone rubber layer and an outer, silicone rubber layer and which has two broad faces and two narrow edges. The silicone rubber layers are capable of absorbing and swelling in the presence of a liquid hydrocarbon. The inner layer but not the outer layer is filled with electrically conductive particles, preferably carbon black particles, so as to be capable of switching from having an electrical impedance which is relatively low to having an electrical impedance which is relatively high when swollen in the presence of a liquid hydrocarbon. As made from an open cell, polyethylene foam, a porous body is attached to the sensor. The porous body is capable of floating with the sensor on water or on a liquid hydrocarbon and of conducting a liquid hydrocarbon through the porous body to the sensor. In one contemplated embodiment, the sensor is ribbon-like with two broad faces and two narrow edges, and the porous body comprises two porous slabs attached to the sensor, each porous slab covering one of the broad faces and extending beyond both of the narrow edges. The sensor may be usefully deployed in a serpentine arrangement between the porous slabs. The porous body may be alternatively wrapped around the sensor.
