An optical network unit having an environmentally sealed printed circuit board arrangement within a first compartment and a signal in/out arrangement in a second compartment. The compartments are provided by two housings. Instead of replacing individual circuit boards in the case of breakdown or malfunction, replacement of the whole of the printed circuit board arrangement is necessary thereby eliminating human error and minimizing downtime. Two housings provide the two compartments. These housings are preferably mounted upon a housing mount and a carrier for the optical network unit is also preferably mounted upon the housing mount. This housing and carrier arrangement simplifies assembly and disassembly of parts of the unit for maintenance and replacement purposes.

Optical network unit

An electrically operated equipment with a sealed enclosure containing circuitry with an exterior visual indicator to show a state of operation of the equipment. The visual indicator is illuminated by a magnetic flux sensor also exterior to the equipment, the sensor inducing an electrical current from a sensed magnetic flux passing through a permeable wall of the enclosure. The magnetic flux is provided by a magnetic field generator within the enclosure. The generator is connected to the equipment to generate the field when the circuitry is operating correctly whereby the indicator shows a correct state of operation. The invention avoids the use of sealed orifices in the enclosure for conductors to pass to exterior LEDs or LEDs sealed within the enclosure and possible resultant leakage. The invention is useful for optical network units. The invention also includes a visual indicating device of multi-layer configuration and a method of visually indicating the operational state of circuitry.

This invention relates to a visual indication system for a field replaceable unit. The system includes two or more visual indicators on a face of the field replaceable unit (FRU), each indicator having a unique shape and being switchable between an on state and an off state. Diagnostic and administrative control within the FRU functions to monitor overall operation of the FRU and, under the control of Network Operations Systems, selectively turns on or off the visual indicators to reflect status of the FRU.

Redundantly coded visual indication system

A printed circuit board with a face plate having a connector support located behind it and being movable for access to the connector support. The connector support has a connector mounting for connecting two fiber connectors, the geometry being such that with the face plate removed, the rearwardly directed connector and accompanying fiber is accessible together with the forwardly directed fiber and connector for cleaning purposes without removal of the circuit board from operational position within a shelf.

Combinations of printed circuit boards and face plates

Electrical connector having a latch to hold it to a support in working position. Included is a pivoted handle which normally lies close to the connector body, but which is accessible to allow it to be moved to a position for gripping to allow for connector removal from the support. The handle is connected to the latch so that as the handle moves to the position for connector removal, it automatically disconnects the latch thereby permitting withdrawal of the connector. Useful for connector positioning in confined spaces and allows for narrower circuit pack designs while also including essential latch mechanisms which, because of the narrow designs, are manually inaccessible.
