An embodiment of a hearing assistance device comprises a housing, a power source, a radio circuit, an antenna and a transmission line. The radio circuit is within the housing and electrically connected to the power source. The antenna has an aperture, and the radio circuit is at least substantially within the aperture. The transmission line electrically connects to the antenna to the radio circuit. Various antenna embodiments include a flex circuit antenna.

Antennas for standard fit hearing assistance devices

Disclosed herein, among other things, are systems and methods for a hearing device antenna. One aspect of the present subject matter includes a hearing device configured to be worn in an ear of a wearer to perform wireless communication. The hearing device includes a housing, hearing electronics within the housing, and an inverted F antenna or loop antenna disposed at least partially in the housing and configured for performing 2.4 GHz wireless communication. In various embodiments, at least a portion of the antenna protrudes from an exterior of the housing.

Radio frequency antenna for an in-the-ear hearing device

Disclosed herein, among other things, are methods and apparatus for mitigating antenna interference for hearing assistance devices. One aspect of the present subject matter includes a hearing aid for a wearer including hearing aid electronics and an antenna including a loop segment. According to various embodiments, one or more conductors are connected in parallel with a portion of the loop segment. The conductors electrically short the loop segment to change current distribution in the antenna. The conductors reduce unwanted coupling between the hearing aid electronics and the antenna, according to various embodiments.

Disclosed herein, among other things, are systems and methods for a hearing device antenna. Disclosed herein, among other things, are systems and methods for modular circuit component for a hearing assistance device flex antenna. One aspect of the present subject matter includes a universal apparatus for use with multiple hearing assistance devices. The apparatus includes a circuit module including an outer radial surface, the circuit module configured to provide electronics for a hearing assistance device. A flex circuit loop antenna is configured to be affixed to the outer radial surface, and the antenna is configured for wireless communication for the hearing assistance device. After the antenna is affixed to the outer radial surface, the circuit module is configured to be inserted into a plurality of different main hearing assistance device chassis. In various embodiments, the circuit module includes a retention feature and the antenna includes an opening configured to align with and receive the retention feature to affix the antenna to the circuit module.

Systems and methods for hearing assistance device antenna

Multiple antennas at the receiver and/or transmitter are commonly used in wireless communications systems to provide diversity in order reduce fading and other effects brought about by multi-path propagation. Due to the size of hearing aids and the wavelengths of the frequencies used for communication, it is difficult to achieve what is called spatial diversity by disposing the multiple antennas at different locations. Described herein are techniques for providing polarization diversity in hearing aids using antennas with different polarizations and applying the appropriate phase shifts to the received and/or transmitted signals to improve the signal quality.

A hearing aid is described which incorporates an antenna integrated into the housing or shell. The hearing aid shell may constructed by forming an inner shell portion, disposing an antenna on an outer surface of the inner shell portion, and forming an outer shell portion around the inner shell portion. In various embodiments, the hearing aid shell may be constructed using an injection molding process or a 3D printing process.

A hearing assistance device, such as a hearing aid, includes an antenna connected to a communication circuit through a feed-line for wireless communication. The antenna and the feed-line are configured and placed such at capacitance between their conductors is approximately minimized. In one embodiment, the feed-line includes feed-line conductors each including a major portion approximately perpendicular to an antenna conductor. In another embodiment, the feed-line includes a feed-line conductor crossing the antenna conductor, and at least one of the antenna conductor and the feed-line conductor includes a notch in the crossing area to reduce the crossing area.

Left/Right (L/R) hearing assistance device (HA) symmetrical performance of the antenna is highly desired when using the same HA design for both the left and the right ears. Physical symmetry and loading of the antenna, both internal and external to the HA, is usually not possible because the antenna should avoid the microphone, battery, and switch locations within the HA. Described herein are antenna structures, hearing assistance devices with integrated antennas, and methods of wireless communication in hearing assistance devices which create symmetrical (L/R) antenna performance with physically asymmetrical antenna designs.
