Applications may be created and registered to an online ecosystem and then execute within individual web applications such as productivity applications, communication applications, collaboration applications, and so on. These non-native applications may be enabled to interact with files and provide custom experiences for a user. The applications may also be enabled to interact with additional information discovered about the user within the ecosystem to provide custom experiences. The applications may further be enabled to create custom workflows to allow users to accomplish new tasks.

Support for non-native file types in web application environment

Systems, methods, and computer-executable instructions for supporting custom functions within an application. An application add-in is received that includes a custom function and a custom function location. The application is available across multiple platforms. The custom function is also available across multiple platforms. The custom function is registered within the application using the custom function location. A request to invoke the custom function is received within the application A custom function implementation is downloaded from the custom function location. The custom function implementation is executed. A return value is received from the custom function implementation. The return value may be displayed within the application.

Cross platform custom functions

An interface mechanism is provided for developers to bundle together a set of extensions (or add-ins) to a productivity suite allowing end users and system administrators to manage their lifecycle in a unified way. Aspects such as discovery, acquisition, authorization deployment, management, updates, and similar ones may be addressed for the bundle as opposed to each of the different extensions (for example extensions for different versions of the same application such as desktop version, web application version, mobile version, etc.). Bundles may also provide a means to match specific functional sets or commercial offerings to specific user or customer profiles.

Extensibility bundles for a cloud and devices suite

Techniques for dynamic domain-based isolation are described. An apparatus may comprise a domain name component operative to receive a domain name request for a uniform resource locator, the domain name component operative to resolve the domain name requeston a wildcard entry in a domain name table, a receiving component operative to receive a request for a web application at the uniform resource locator, the uniform resource locator having been dynamically assigned to the web application, and an application identification component operative to determine which hosted web application of a plurality of hosted web applications corresponds to the requested web application on the basis of the uniform resource locator. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques for dynamic domain-based isolation

The display language of a site may be changed to another alternate language by users of a site at any time. For example, a first user may access the same site in its default language (i.e. English) and a second user may access the site using their preferred language (i.e. French) even though the default language of the site is different from their preferred language. The language of the site may be changed from one language to another language at any time a user is accessing the site. Application content changes are identified by the site helping to ensure consistency between the default language and the alternate languages.
