A system and method of exercising targeted muscles of the face using electrotherapy. An electrotherapy machine is provided that produces both burst mode oscillating current and biphasic current. Burst mode oscillating current is used to map positions for electrodes that cause contractions in specific regions of the targeted muscles. Biphasic current is used to map positions for electrodes that stimulate the buccal nerve branch and cause simultaneous contractions of the entire targeted muscles. After mapping burst mode oscillating current is directed from the electrotherapy machine to the first set of electrodes during a first period of time. Biphasic current is directed from the electrotherapy machine to a second set of electrodes during a second period of time that is subsequent to the first period of time. The cycles are repeated to cause concentric and eccentric contractions in the targeted muscles. The contractions exercise and tone the targeted muscles.

Method of applying electrotherapy to facial muscles

A system and method for advancing an implant into a surgical incision. The implant is placed into a compression sleeve. The compression sleeve has a first open end, a second open end, a first stage of a first length, and a second stage of a second length. The cross-sectional profile of the first stage is larger than the cross-sectional profile of the second stage. The implant is inserted into the first stage of the compression sleeve through the open first end. The compression sleeve is compressed to advance the pliable prosthetic implant at least partially into the second stage of the compression sleeve. The open second end of the compression sleeve is directed into a surgical incision. The compression sleeve is further compressed to advance the pliable prosthetic implant through the second stage, through the open second end, and into the surgical incision.

An apparatus for stretching the skin between the fingers of a syndactyly includes first and second upper members, and first and second lower members. Means are provided for adjustably spreading the first and second upper members relative to each other and for adjustably spreading the first and second lower members relative to each other. A first plurality of wires, configured to pierce the skin of the syndactyly and to translate force to bones of the first finger, are connected to the first upper member and to the first lower member. Likewise a similar second plurality of wires are connected to the second upper member and to the second lower member. A method for stretching the skin of the syndactyly includes inserting the first plurality of wires through the skin of the syndactyly between the first and second fingers adjacent the bones of the first finger. The second plurality of wires are inserted similarly adjacent the bones of the second finger. The first plurality of wires is connected to the first upper and lower members, and the second plurality of wires is connected to the second upper and lower members. The first plurality of wires are slowly spread relative to the second plurality of wires such that the first and second plurality of wires spread apart the respective bones of the first and second fingers, thereby stretching the skin of the syndactyly.
