An animal feeding system includes a feed storage container having an interior area for animal feed; an outlet attached to the feed storage container at a first end and extending to a second end to allow the animal feed to flow therethrough via gravity to the second end; an access device attached at the second end of the outlet; a motor in electrical communication with the access device to open and close the access device to provide and remove access to the animal feed; and a control system in electrical communication with the motor to send commands to the motor, the control system having a programmable chip; and a sensor suite, the sensor suite collecting information to provide to the programmable chip; the programmable chip operates a timer based on the information from the sensor suite to open and close the access device; a data log is created.

Animal feeding system and method of use

A torque transfer system includes a drive shaft threaded into a housing. The drive shaft includes shaft splines. The housing includes housing splines. A sleeve includes inner splines and outer splines. The inner splines are configured to interlock with the shaft splines and the outer splines are configured to interlock with the housing splines.

Torque transfer system

A downhole motor may include a power section, a connecting rod assembly, and a drive shaft. The power section may include a stator and a rotor with the rotor configured to rotate eccentrically when a drilling fluid is passed through the stator. The connecting rod assembly operatively connects the rotor of the power section and the drive shaft of the bearing section. The connecting rod assembly may include a housing and a connecting rod. The housing may have a proximal end and a distal end with the proximal end connected to the stator. The connecting rod may include a proximal end including a rigid connection operatively connected to the rotor, a mid flexible rod, and a distal end terminating at or proximate an articulating joint. The drive shaft may be operatively connected to the articulating joint.

It is desirable to secure a lower end of a down hole assembly in the event of a down hole failure, such as a fractured drive shaft, enabling recovery of the bottom hole assembly and drill bit. To secure the lower end of the down hole assembly, a catch apparatus according to embodiments herein may be used, the catch apparatus including a rotating bearing having a distal end threadably coupled to a distal portion of a drive shaft. The apparatus may also include a stationary bearing having a proximal end threadably coupled to a distal end of an outer housing. A catch ring may be threadably coupled to a proximal end of the rotating bearing, the catch ring having a shoulder radially overlapping a shoulder of the stationary bearing.

A downhole tool including a purely mechanical stabilizer is disclosed. The stabilizer includes a plurality of fixed blades, each of which includes at least one automatically extendable and retractable piston. In use, a balance of forces determines the radial position of each piston; a hydraulic force urging the piston outward, a spring force urging the piston inward, and external forces acting on the tool (e.g., the force of the borehole wall urging the pistons inward). The stabilizer is further configured such that a balance of forces between the pistons causes the tool to be advantageously automatically and continuously centered during rotation of the tool in the borehole. As such, the invention is suitable for use in boreholes that rapidly change size and shape.

Forced balanced system

A purely mechanical hydraulic control system includes at least one drilling fluid chamber and a hydraulic fluid chamber. A system pressure spring is deployed in one of the drilling fluid chamber(s) between a positioning piston and a system pressure piston. The spring is disposed to pressurize oil in the hydraulic fluid chamber via applying a spring force to the system pressure piston. When the system is actuated (e.g., via turning on the mud pumps), the positioning piston is urged in place against a stop (e.g., a shoulder) thereby compressing the system pressure spring and pressurizing oil in the hydraulic chamber. The invention advantageously converts highly variable drilling fluid pressure to a near constant pressure hydraulic fluid.

Downhole hydraulic control system

A downhole steering tool is disclosed. The steering tool includes a rotatable shaft, a substantially non-rotating tool body deployed about the shaft, and a plurality of force application members deployed on the steering tool body. The steering tool further includes a bendable section deployed in the steering tool body. The bendable section is disposed to bend preferentially relative to the steering tool body under an applied bending load. The use of a steering tool body having a bendable section tends to advantageously reduce bending stresses in the steering tool body during use. Moreover, tools embodying this invention may be suitable for higher dogleg severity applications.

Downhole steering tool having a non-rotating bendable section

A steering assembly includes upper and lower tubular housings connected by a universal joint. An angle cam is disposed on the end of the lower housing and projects into the upper housing. A plurality of wedge members extend axially from the upper housing and into engagement with the angle cam. Drive trains are connected to the wedge members to move the wedge members toward and away from the angle cam so as to pivot the lower housing at the universal joint and change the angle and azimuth of the lower housing with respect to the upper housing. The lower housing is connected to a bearing pack supporting a drill bit such that upon changing the angle and azimuth of the lower housing, the direction of the drilling of the drill bit is also changed. The steering assembly being connected to composite tubing having conductors in the wall thereof for conducting data and commands between the steering assembly and a processor at the surface and for providing power to the steering assembly. Data on the position of the bit is transmitted to a processor which determines the direction of drilling and selectively transmits commands to the steering assembly to change the bend angle and direction of the drilling of the bit.

Three dimensional steering system and method for steering bit to drill borehole

The drilling system includes a work string supporting a bottom hole assembly. The work string including lengths of pipe having a non-metallic portion. The work string preferably includes a composite coiled tubing having a fluid impermeable liner, multiple load carrying layers, and a wear layer. Multiple electrical conductors and data transmission conductors may be embedded in the load carrying layers for carrying current or transmitting data between the bottom hole assembly and the surface. The bottom hole assembly includes a bit, a gamma ray and inclinometer instrument package, a steerable assembly, an electronics section, a transmission, and a power section for rotating the bit. It may or may not include a propulsion system. The drilling system may be a gravity based drilling system that does include a propulsion system. Various motive means may be provided, such as gravity, to apply weight on the bit.

Well system

Apparatus and methods for diverting a portion of the drilling fluid that flows into a drilling assembly comprise diverting the drilling fluid into the annulus of a deviated wellbore at a flow rate corresponding to a velocity that is sufficient to transport cuttings to the surface while drilling progresses. The diverted drilling fluid is directed into the annulus at an angle to prevent erosion of the wellbore wall. The flow rate of the diverted drilling fluid is controlled to establish a fixed flow rate, or alternatively, a variable flow rate. Pressure is dissipated and fluid velocity is reduced as the diverted drilling fluid flows between a high fluid pressure within the drilling assembly to a lower pressure in the wellbore annulus.

Method and apparatus for removing cuttings from a deviated wellbore

A connector assembly for connecting with a rotatable shaft is provided. The connector assembly includes a mating sleeve threadably coupleable about the shaft and a center sleeve sized and shaped for deployment between the shaft and the mating sleeve. The center sleeve includes pluralities of splines formed on inner and outer surfaces thereof. The splines on the inner surface of the center sleeve are engageable with splines on the outer surface of the shaft and the splines on the outer surface of the center sleeve are engageable with splines on the inner surface of the mating sleeve. Exemplary embodiments of this invention are useful in downhole tools to reduce make-up torque requirements of the mating sleeve, and therefore may advantageously increase the cyclic torsional and/or bending load capacity of the shaft, while also increasing the total torsional load capacity of the connection.

Downhole rotatable-shaft connector assembly and method

A drilling assembly, a reamer, and an adjustable diameter stabilizer are disclosed. The reamer includes cutter elements mounted on at least a first fixed blade for reaming a previously-formed borehole or for forming a borehole of increased diameter beneath an existing cased borehole. The apparatus provides for stabilizing the drilling assembly so that the reamer may be used in back reaming the hole. Retainer means, such as shear pins or spring-biased reciprocating latch members, are provided to prevent premature extension of the adjustable diameter stabilizer's moveable members, including blades and pistons. The shear pins are preferably accessible from the outer surface of the reamer housing so as to expedite field replacement of the shear pins without requiring disassembly of the reamer. The spring-biased latching members repeatedly latch and unlatch so that field replacement is not required, and so that the movable members may be extended and contracted multiple times while the reamer is downhole.

Apparatus and method for drilling and reaming a borehole

An assembly for drilling a deviated borehole includes a bottom hole assembly connected to a string of coiled tubing and includes a bit driven by a downhole motor powered by drilling fluids. A surface pump pumps the drilling fluids downhole through a cross valve to provide a first path directing drilling fluids down the coiled tubing flowbore and a second path directing drilling fluids down the annulus. The bottom hole assembly has a downhole valve allowing flow between the flowbore and the annulus. A first flow passageway directs drilling fluids down the coiled tubing flow bore and then up the annulus and a second flow passageway directs drilling fluids down the annulus and the up the flowbore. The bottom hole assembly includes a subsurface pump capable of pumping drilling fluids from the second fluid passageway to the surface. The bottom hole assembly includes an electric motor to rotate the subsurface pump and the motor is provided with power conduits embedded in a wall of the coiled tubing. Another subsurface pump may be provided, such that the subsurface pumps pump drilling fluid with cuttings to the surface and/or pump clean drilling fluids into the downhole motor to aid drilling.

Method and apparatus for increasing drilling capacity and removing cuttings when drilling with coiled tubing

The drilling system includes a work string supporting a bottom hole assembly. The work string including lengths of pipe having a non-metallic portion.
