An apparatus and method for an electrocardiogram (ECG) cable suitable for use inside a Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanner during a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) operation. In particular, the present invention relates to a patient safe (MRI-conditional) 12-lead ECG cable capable of use inside an MR scanner during an MRI scan. The ECG cable does not heat up to a degree that would burn a patient undergoing an MRI scan, but also enables the conventional 12-lead ECG electrode placement required for diagnostic monitoring of the patient. Specifically, the ECG cable electrodes can be placed on a patient in the traditional configuration as 12-lead ECG cable designed for use outside of an MR scanner and take diagnostic level readings, during operation of an MR device or system. Additionally, the cable provides a continuous shield which maintains zero emissions while satisfying defibrillation requirements.

A non-invasive fetal monitoring system includes a plurality of contact elements, each of the contact elements comprising a plurality of electrodes configured in a unique pattern. The plurality of contact elements are configured for attachment to an external skin surface of a pregnant female for detecting fetal and/or maternal electrical activity.

The present invention relates to a device, system and method for controlling a data acquisition device and inserting the acquired data into the memory of an electronic device with minimal buffering of the data. An interface device, separate from the electronic device and capable of highly accurate timing, controls a data acquisition device. This interface device provides an interface between real time data and non real time operating system running on the electronic device. By sending data to a non-real time system in a near real-time manner, the non-real time system can continue the processing of the data either in near real time, or it can store the data for later processing.

A method for fetal monitoring includes acquiring electrical signals from a set of electrodes, for example, a set of surface electrodes applied to a maternal abdominal region. The electrical signals are analyzed, including by performing a morphological analysis of fetal electrocardiogram signals. A clinical indicator is then determined from a result of performing the morphological analysis.

A method and apparatus for providing an active standby control system comprising the steps of providing a first and second controller, each controller having an operating state. Each controller is operably connected to a network. Assigning a network identifier, i.e., Internet Protocol, Media Access Control address, etc., to each controller and sensing the operating state of each controller. The network identifier of each controller is determined by the operating state of each respective controller.
