An electrical expansion coupling comprising a housing having a first end and a second end, with a first end cap secured to the first end with a first sealing gland positioned therein, and a second end cap secured to the second end with a second sealing gland positioned therein. The expansion coupling includes an axial sliding ground plate adapted to receive an electrical conduit positioned within the first end of the housing, and a stationary ground plate adapted to receive an electrical conduit positioned within the second end of the housing. The expansion coupling further includes a grounding member electrically connecting the axial sliding ground plate and the stationary ground plate, and an anti-rotation mechanism adapted for preventing relative rotation of the sliding ground plate and the stationary ground plate when a conduit is threaded into the sliding ground plate or the stationary ground plate.

Housing

An apparatus for detachably mounting a device to a rail. The rail has generally oppositely facing first and second edges, each having adjacent front and back faces. The apparatus includes a bracket on the device. The bracket has a recess for receiving the first edge of the rail. The recess includes a lip for engaging the back face of the rail adjacent the first edge. The apparatus also includes a clamp on the device. The clamp has a resilient wing for resiliently engaging the front face of the rail, proximal to the engagement between the rail and the lip. The apparatus further includes a latch for engaging the back face of the rail adjacent the second edge against the bias of the clamp.

Apparatus and methods for detachably mounting devices to rails

Bracket

A connector for connecting a flexible, eccentrically dimensioned conduit to an electrical fixture comprising a connector cap and body portions. The connector cap has a threaded metal collar portion and a plastic floating sleeve with an extending wedging ring. The mating threaded metal connector body has a deflection ramp and an internally secured plastic sleeve support. The connector body is secured to an electrical fixture and the connector cap is loosely threadably engaged with the connector body. The conduit is inserted through an opening in the connector cap until it abuts the bottom of an annular cavity defined between the connector body upper wall and the sleeve support. The cap is then tightly screwed onto the body such that the wedging ring is cammed, by the deflection ramp, into engagement with the conduit to securely grip the conduit. This arrangement provides a liquid-tight seal. The collar and floating sleeve portions of the connector cap may move laterally and pivotably with respect to one another so that the connector may accommodate eccentrically dimensioned conduit and relieve stress imposed by flexing of the conduit during use. Provision is made in the connector design to minimize twisting of the conduit while engaged by the connector assembly. The wedging ring may also be provided with a depending extension ring for gripping the conduit when the connector cap and body are only joined in a finger-tight manner.

Conduit connector for eccentrically dimensioned conduit

A two-piece, all plastic connector for connecting a flexible conduit to an electrical fixture comprising a threaded connector cap having an extending wedging ring and a mating threaded connector body having a deflection ramp. The connector body is secured to an electrical fixture and the connector cap is loosely threadably engaged with the connector body. The conduit is inserted through an opening in the connector cap until it abuts the bottom of an annular cavity in the connector body. The cap is then tightly screwed onto the body such that the wedging ring is cammed, by the deflection ramp, into engagement with the conduit to securely grip the conduit. This arrangement provides a liquid-tight seal.

Plastic conduit connector for flexible conduit

A four-piece all plastic strain relief connector for connecting an electrical cord to an electrical fixture comprising a body member and cap member which threadably engage to form a chamber. Located within this chamber is a collet and diaphragm assembly consisting of a flexible diaphragm snap-fit to a semi-rigid collet. The diaphragm has an aperture through which the cord passes and which forms a liquid-tight seal with the cord. The collet has a plurality of deformable tines for gripping the cord. One end of the body member is attached to a through hole in the electrical fixture. After the cord is inserted through the connector, the cap and body members are tightly screwed together such that a protrusion on the body deforms the tines on the collet into engagement with the cord. Teeth on the tines engage the plastic jacket of the cord to provide a secure grip. A sealing member formed on the collet makes a liquid-tight seal with the body member and resists the force required to insert the cord through the aperture of the diaphragm, thus the tines are prevented from being prematurely deformed by the protrusion.

Strain relief connectors for flexible cord and cable

A connector for connecting jacketed, metal clad cable to an electrical box includes a tubular metallic body with a stamped and formed retainer element preferably staked therein. This retainer element has an annular rim with radially inwardly directed fingers formed or bent toward the electrical-box end of the connector for permitting insertion of the cable therein preparatory to affixing the two together, for preventing withdrawal of that cable in the opposite direction, and also for providing an electrical grounding continuity. The connector also features an elastomeric compression grommet that compresses into the cable jacket upon the tightening of a nut onto the connector body. A Teflon washer between grommet and nut minimizes the frictional resistance therebetween as the nut is tightened onto the connector body.

Connector for use with jacketed metal clad cable

A stamped, sheetmetal fastener for attaching electrical boxes or the like to steel studs or the like includes a first portion designed for attachment to an electrical box and a second portion designed for attachment to one of the flanges of a metal stud. The electrical box attachment portion comprises a wide and flat strip of sheetmetal with its midportions struck out so as to form a leg parallel thereto that has teeth thereon for gripping the electrical box. The flat strip and its parallel leg together slip snugly over the edge of an electrical box sidewall, and the teeth on the leg bite into that sidewall to create a semi-permanent connection therewith. The metal stud attachment portion includes a pair of widely spaced appendages or fingers formed to fit over the inwardly turned lip at the outermost end of the stud flange, and also a third arm-like appendage between the widely spaced pair of fingers which acts in concert therewith so as to grip and push against the outer flange extremities to thereby lock the fastener, and thus the electrical box, to the metal stud.
