A request for establishing an IP session from a mobile device to be activated and connected to a cellular network is redirected to a web portal or platform of the cellular network. When the mobile device sends an authentication request for requesting establishment of an IP session to the cellular network, the mobile device receives a restricted IP address from the cellular network if the mobile device is not currently authorized for communication via the cellular network. A reverse domain name system lookup is performed on the restricted IP address to find a host name of a web portal or platform of the cellular network corresponding to the restricted IP address. The mobile device determines whether or not redirection of an IP communication request to the web portal or platform of the cellular network is to occur based on the host name.

Method and system for redirecting a request for IP session from a mobile device

A system and method permit communications of a mobile station of emergency service personnel while blocking communications of mobile stations of other users. In response to an emergency in a region, a mobile switching center may be configured to restrict communications of mobile stations in the region through an identified cell site base station controlled by the mobile switching center during the emergency while the identified cell site base station continues wireless radio frequency transmissions. This configuration may be accomplished with the use of a trigger, such as a Specific_Called_Party_Digit_String trigger. While the mobile switching center is configured for the emergency, a designated trigger condition may be detected with respect to an attempted communication for a mobile station through the identified cell site base station.

Public safety communications incident response

An approach is provided for overriding a call blocking feature. A request to establish a voice call over a wireless network to a called party is intercepted. A call blocking feature is detected as being enabled for the called party. The calling party is prompted for a passcode in response to the detected call blocking feature. The passcode is received from the calling party to override the call blocking feature.

Method and system for overriding call blocking

A telephone call processing arrangement establishes a path between a called switching center and call feature server in response to receipt of an incoming call to a subscriber. A predetermined message is transmitted from the call feature server, and the incoming call is disconnected with out extending a call leg to the subscriber. Such provision may be employed for a mobile or landline subscriber.

Call interception feature permitting subscribers to send customizable messages to callers

A method performed by a mobile terminal includes receiving a device identifier from a short-distance-communication (SDC) device located outside of the mobile terminal by using the internal SDC device disposed in the mobile terminal and determining whether the received device identifier corresponds to or includes one of one or more identifiers stored in the mobile terminal. Upon determining that the received device identifier corresponds to one of the one or more stored identifiers, the mobile terminal performs a predetermined control function corresponding to the identifiers, without further receiving any instruction signal to control the phone function or the data communication function from the external SDC device.

Controlling device functions of a mobile terminal in a restricted area

A home network may track data usage in real time by a wireless mobile communication device while roaming in a GSM network that is separate from the home network. A Home Location Register (HLR) may receive location information indicative of the location of the wireless mobile communication device in the GSM network. An Online Charging System (OCS) may receive the location information directly or indirectly from the Home Location Register. The Online Charging System may use this location information to determine data rates and cutoff limits which are consistent with subscriber plans and are based on the location of the mobile communication device. This information may be communicated to roaming subscribers in real time and/or used to cut off data communication.

Real time tracking at home network of data usage on roaming GSM network

In disclosed embodiments, a relatively small passive monitor tool provides one or more alerts to a user of a mobile station, to readily notify the user, even if the station is carried in a pocket or purse. In one example, the tool listens for a message on a paging channel of the wireless network, indicating an incoming call or the like intended for the mobile station. Upon detecting the incoming paging signal, the tool provides its own perceptible alert to the user. In another example, the tool listens to the access channel for periodic keep-alive signals from the mobile station. When the monitor tool fails to detect such signals from the station, for example, for some interval, the tool provides another perceptible alert to the user. This second alert may indicate low-battery, an out-of-range mobile station, or that the mobile station signals are blocked by some obstacle.
