A cytology sampling system includes a catheter tube and a cytology tool. The catheter tube has open proximal and distal ends. The cytology tool is insertable through the catheter tube and includes a flexible shaft and a brush. The brush is coupled to the distal end of the flexible shaft. The brush includes a plurality of brush shafts. Each brush shaft has bristles disposed along a portion of a length thereof. The bristles are coupled to and extend radially away from an outer surface of each of the brush shafts. The bristles are configured to collect cell samples from targeted tissue of a patient.

Cytology sampling system and method of utilizing the same

A cytology sampling system includes a catheter tube and a cytology tool. The catheter tube has open proximal and distal ends. The cytology tool is insertable through the catheter tube and includes a flexible shaft, a brush, and a position sensor. The flexible shaft defines proximal and distal ends thereof. The brush is coupled to the distal end of the flexible shaft. The brush includes a plurality of brush shafts. Each brush shaft has bristles disposed along a portion of a length thereof. The bristles are coupled to and extend radially away from an outer surface of each of the brush shafts. The bristles are configured to collect cell samples from targeted tissue of a patient. The position sensor provides an indication of the location of the position sensor within a luminal structure. The system may include a positioning assembly for placing the distal end of the catheter tube adjacent the target tissue.

A cytology sampling system includes a catheter tube and a cytology tool. The catheter tube has open proximal and distal ends. The cytology tool is insertable through the catheter tube and includes a flexible shaft, a brush, and a position sensor. The brush is coupled to a distal end of the flexible shaft. The brush includes a plurality of brush shafts. Each brush shaft has bristles disposed along a portion of a length thereof. The bristles are coupled to and extend radially away from an outer surface of each of the brush shafts. The bristles are configured to collect cell samples from targeted tissue of a patient. The position sensor provides an indication of the location of the position sensor within a luminal structure. The system may include a positioning assembly for placing the distal end of the catheter tube adjacent the target tissue.

A combination glucose measuring and insulin pumping device is described. The two major components, a glucose measuring module and an insulin pump, are held together by a quick attach and release mechanism. Communication between the glucose measuring module and the insulin pump is by a wireless modality. The glucose measuring module determines the glucose level in a sample, and wirelessly transmits the data to the insulin pump, where the data are stored in a memory, and are available for visual display on the insulin pump, and for incorporation into selection of appropriate protocols for the rate of insulin infusion by the pump into the patient.

A medication pump includes a housing including an external wall and a plurality of internal adjoining housings, including a first housing enclosing a cartridge. The pump includes a primary vent for venting the medication pump to atmosphere, the primary vent including a primary liquid barrier allowing passage of gas therethrough while preventing passage of liquid therethrough. The pump includes a secondary vent on the first housing, the secondary vent including a secondary liquid barrier allowing passage of gas therethrough to an interior of the housing while preventing passage of liquid therethrough.

The present invention concerns a pump provided with a control module and an attachable fluid reservoir cassette. The control module includes a pumping mechanism for pumping fluid from the fluid reservoir to the patient. The cassette is provided with appropriate indicia to identify differences between a plurality of cassettes. The control module further includes cassette indicia identification structure for identifying indicia on the cassette. One type of cassette identification system includes a projection extending from the cassette and structure associated with the control module which engages the projection. Another type of cassette identification system includes a light reflecting system which utilizes light from the control module and reflected off the cassette. Still other types of cassette identification systems utilize other non-contact switches or sensors to sense indicia on the cassette to identify the cassette from a plurality of cassettes.

Systems and methods for cassette identification for drug pumps

Reusable cassettes for a drug pump are disclosed to house a fluid reservoir and tubing extending from the reservoir across a tubing support surface of the pressure plate of the cassette. A hinged housing provides reversible access to the fluid reservoir. Reuse of a portion of the pressure plate is also disclosed.

A cassette for use with a pump control module includes a top surface configured for receipt of a tube and an access door. A method for using a pump control module includes mounting a cassette having a top surface comprising an access door to the pump control module; opening the access door; installing the tube into the cassette; closing the access door; and effecting pumping. A infusion pump comprising a pump control module and a cassette configured for receiving a tube, the cassette comprising an access door and a frame.

The present invention describes a free-flow protection device. A pump and tube are provided where the pump affects the flow of fluid through the tube. The device occludes the tube when the tube becomes disengaged from the pump. The device may be internal or external to the tube. The tube may attach to the pump with a pressure plate.

Free-flow protection devices and methods

A medical infusion pump system includes a clamshell housing, a plate, and a pump. The clamshell housing includes a first shell and a second shell hingedly connected together allowing the housing to be in an open position or in a closed position. The housing defines one open end and an interior space. A plate releasably engages the housing at the open end when the housing is in the closed position. The plate defines an opening communicating with the interior space and includes attachment structure. The pump is removably attachable to the attachment structure of the plate and includes a retaining portion. When the pump is attached to the plate, the retaining portion retains the housing in the closed position.

Control module cassette locks and methods

A pressure plate for use with a pump includes a top surface configured for receipt of a tube and a plurality of side edges defining a channel communicating with the top surface. The pressure plate also includes a pair of hooks and a loop for releasably attaching the pressure plate to the pump. Attachment structure is provided for fixedly attaching the first end of the top surface to the pump. A method for attaching to a pump a reservoir having a tube includes providing a pressure plate with first and second ends and having an inlet tube slot and an outlet tube slot for holding the tube; attaching the first end of the pressure plate to the pump using a fastener, the fastener allowing the pressure plate to pivot toward and away from the pump; inserting the tube into the inlet tube slot and outlet tube slot; pivoting the second end of the pressure plate toward the pump; and attaching the second end of the pressure plate to the pump.

Pressure plate adaptors and methods

This invention relates to reusable pressure plates designed to position tubing along a tubing support surface to facilitate peristaltic pumping of fluids from a fluid reservoir to a patient. Preferred embodiments of this invention include reinforced pump anchors to securably but releasably affix the pressure plate to the control module portion of an infusion system and cantilevered spring support to maintain pump accuracy and enabling the use of more durable materials for pressure plate manufacture.

Reusable pressure plates and methods

An infusion system having a pumping mechanism with tube-engaging members for pumping fluid through a tube, a releasable pressure plate that can be attached and detached from the pumping mechanism having a releasable attachment mechanism for attaching an infusion tube to the pressure plate such that the infusion tube can be engaged by the tube-engaging members when the pressure plate is attached to the pumping mechanism, and an infusion tube for delivering fluid from a fluid source to a patient that is arranged and configured to be attached to the pressure plate by the attachment mechanism and used with the pumping mechanism. The infusion tube can be quickly replaced by detaching the infusion tube from the releasable attachment mechanism and attaching a new infusion tube to the pressure plate. The pressure plate preferably includes a pair of pump-securing extensions, a loop-shaped pump anchor, a plurality of tube-positioning rib pairs, and a retaining lip having a retaining lip surface sized to retain the infusion tube.
