Hot-fillable, blow molded, wide-mouth plastic containers having a pair of flex panels ( ) for accommodating thermally induced volumetric and pressure variations while affording easy contents scoopability, and desirable labeling features. The containers are capable of being blow-molded from injection molded preforms or from extruded parisons. The containers may be hot-filled and retorted. A desirable base ( ) for a retortable container is also disclosed.

A blow-molded container (,) having a closure flap (,) formed of compressed material (,) integral with the container (,). Preferably, the container body (,) has a normally-closed fill port (,) and a dispensing port (,) which can be selectively opened and closed by the closure flap (,). The closure flap,is provided with multiple hinges (,) to allow the closure flap (,) to fold reversely upon itself and to allow the dispensing port (,) to be opened and closed while the fill port (,) remains closed.

Integrally blow-molded container and closure

A fitment for use on a container for dispensing liquids. The fitment provides a pouring spout and a drain back function and is secured within the container finish. The container finish has a neck with a rim and a shoulder. The fitment has an outer wall with upper and lower ends and with a frustoconical shape to ensure that a portion of the outer wall frictionally engages the container finish when the fitment is inserted into the container finish to prevent the fitment from being inserted completely through the neck of the container. An annular bead extends outwardly from the outer wall a spaced distance from the upper end of the outer wall so that when the fitment is engaged in the neck of the container, the bead is positioned directly under the shoulder of the neck. Multiple bands of sealing engagement are created between the fitment and the container fitment to ensure a leak-free connection.
