A valve assembly for use with a surgical instrument is disclosed. The valve assembly includes a housing and a seal assembly disposed within the housing, the seal assembly including a septum seal including an orifice configured to sealingly engage a surgical instrument inserted therethrough, at least a portion of the septum seal defining a seal curvature, a first guard member including a plurality of curved first guard portions defining slits therebetween, and a second guard member including a plurality of curved second guard portions defining slits therebetween. The first and second guard members may be positioned in an overlapping relationship with the plurality of first guard portions rotationally offset with respect to the second guard portions. The wide, triangular shaped slits of the guard members may improve flexibility of the guard portions.

Surgical access device

A mesh deployment device having separate mesh deployment and actuation units is provided. A mesh deployment device includes an actuation unit and a mesh deployment unit configured to be releasably secured to the actuation unit. When the mesh deployment unit is secured to the actuation unit, a first actuation of the actuation unit moves the mesh deployment unit from an expanded condition to a collapsed condition and a second actuation of the actuation unit moves the mesh deployment unit from the collapsed condition to the expanded condition. The mesh deployment device may further include a mesh releasably secured to the mesh deployment unit. A third actuation of the actuation unit may release the mesh from the mesh deployment unit. Also provided is a kit including multiple mesh deployment units.

Mesh deployment devices and kits

A surgical access device including a cannula, a seal, and a seal guard is disclosed. The cannula includes a housing and an elongated portion extending distally from the housing. The seal is disposed at least partially within the housing of the cannula and includes an aperture for sealed reception of a surgical instrument therethrough. The seal guard is disposed at least partially within the housing of the cannula and proximally of the seal. The seal guard is formed from a flat sheet of material and folded into a funnel-like shape.

A balloon dissector assembly includes a balloon dissector having an elongate shaft, a handle disposed on a proximal portion of the elongate shaft, and a dissection balloon supported on a distal portion of the elongate shaft. The dissection balloon includes a substantially cylindrical shape having a deflated condition in which the dissection balloon includes a first diameter between the proximal and distal ends, an inflated condition in which the dissection balloon includes a second diameter between the proximal and distal ends, and a plurality of intermediate conditions in which the balloon transitions from the deflated condition to the inflated condition progressively from the proximal end to the distal end.

An endoscopic surgical device is provided and includes an endoscopic anchor retaining/advancing assembly including a proximal tube portion and a distal tube portion pivotably connected to one another at an articulation joint; a proximal inner shaft rotatably disposed within the proximal tube portion; a distal inner shaft rotatably disposed within the distal tube portion; and a relatively flexible intermediate drive cable mechanically interconnecting the proximal inner shaft and the distal inner shaft, wherein the intermediate drive cable extends across the articulation joint, wherein the intermediate drive cable defines a central longitudinal axis that is off-set a radial distance from a central longitudinal axis of the proximal tube portion and the distal tube portion.

Articulation joint for apparatus for endoscopic procedures

A surgical instrument including a housing, an elongated body, an end effector, and a dissection element. The housing has a handle assembly and the elongated body extends from the housing. The end effector is supported at a distal end of the elongated body and is operatively associated with the handle assembly. The dissection element is disposed about the elongated body proximal to the distal end of the elongated body. The dissection element is configured to bluntly dissect tissue surrounding the elongated body.

Surgical instruments for blunt and sharp tissue dissection

According to an aspect of the present disclosure, an endoscopic surgical device is provided. The surgical device includes a handle assembly including a drive mechanism actuatable by a trigger; and an endoscopic assembly including a proximal end portion extending from the handle assembly; a distal end portion pivotably connected to the proximal end portion of the endoscopic assembly; and a rotatable inner actuation shaft extending from the handle assembly and into the distal end portion of the endoscopic assembly, the inner actuation shaft including a flexible portion extending across the pivot connection. The surgical device includes an end effector selectively connectable to the distal end portion of the endoscopic assembly and to a distal portion of the rotatable inner actuation shaft. The end effector includes a splined inner tube rotatably supported in an outer tube; and a plurality of surgical anchors loaded in the inner tube of the end effector.

Articulating apparatus for endoscopic procedures

A surgical apparatus is disclosed that is configured and dimensioned to create an internal surgical worksite. The surgical apparatus includes a dissection element that is repositionable between an unexpanded condition, wherein the dissection element defines a first outer transverse cross-sectional dimension, and an expanded condition, wherein the dissection element defines a second, larger outer transverse cross-sectional dimension. The surgical apparatus further includes a restrictor that is in contact with the dissection element in order to restrict expansion of the dissection element in at least one direction.
