The invention relates to a method for determining an adjusted position () of a mobile entity in an area () of a mobile communications network based on a reference position () of the mobile entity in the area (), the area being divided into different pixels (). The method comprises determining the reference position () of the mobile entity in the area (), determining, for each pixel () of the area (), a predicted signal level of a radio frequency field of the mobile communications network for the mobile entity, determining, for each pixel () of the area (), a mobile traffic density indicating an expected density of the mobile traffic of the mobile communications network in the area, and determining, for the area (), a probability matrix () of the area based on the reference position (), the predicted signal level and the mobile traffic density, the probability matrix indicating a likelihood that the mobile entity is located in the corresponding pixel of the area. The method further comprises selecting one of the pixels for the mobile entity based on the probability matrix (), the selected pixel corresponding to the adjusted position () of the mobile entity in the area.

Position adjustment in mobile communications networks

A code division multiple access wireless network () comprises a plurality of base stations (-) which operate asynchronously with respect to one another. A set of scrambling codes are allocated to the base stations for scrambling signals transmitted from the base stations. A node () of the wireless network receives () a first type of measurement report from wireless terminals (), which comprises an observed time difference measurement acquired by the wireless terminal () for a signal received from one of an active set of base stations () that currently serve the wireless terminal. A timing reference is determined () for each of the base stations using a plurality of the observed time difference measurements. A second type of measurement report is received () from a wireless terminal () which comprises an observed time difference measurement acquired by the wireless terminal for a signal received from a base station () which is not currently serving the wireless terminal and a scrambling code of the received signal. An identity of the base station () in the second type of measurement report is determined by using the scrambling code of the signal received from the base station () which is not currently serving the wireless terminal and the observed time difference measurement in the second type of measurement report and the determined timing reference for that base station.

Scrambling code resolution

Technologies are provided herein for modifying mobile network signal propagation predictions. According to embodiments, signal characteristics are received from a network management system. The signal characteristics correspond to signals propagating in a predetermined portion of a mobile telephone network. An initial signal propagation prediction that corresponds to the predetermined portion of the mobile telephone network is also received. The initial signal propagation prediction is modified based on the received signal characteristics to produce a more accurate signal propagation prediction.
