The present disclosure relates to configurable modulation in wireless communications. Constellation set signaling and constellation selection signaling are communicated in a wireless communication network. The constellation set signaling is associated with modulation of data using each constellation in a constellation set that includes multiple constellations. The constellation selection signaling is indicative of one of the multiple constellations of the constellation set that is to be used in modulation of data for transmission in the wireless communication network. Data that is modulated using the one of the multiple constellations is also communicated in the wireless communication network.

Methods, apparatus, and systems for configureable modulation in wireless communications

A backscatter transmission scheme is provided in which a carrier signal is transmitted by a carrier communication device discontinuously as carrier signal bursts. The carrier signal, while it is on, is divided into carrier time segments. Each carrier time segment has a specified time. The different carrier time segments represent different times that backscatter devices can make backscatter transmissions. In addition, in some embodiments, a set of frequencies are available for backscatter transmission. The set of frequencies includes the carrier frequency and a set of frequencies with respective frequency shifts relative to the carrier frequency. The combination of a specific carrier time segment, a specific frequency shift, together constitutes a specific backscatter transmission opportunity.

Multiple access in backscatter communication systems

Some aspects of the present disclosure introduce a new downlink (DL) bandwidth part (BWP) and a new uplink (UL) BWP for communication in the RRC_INACTIVE state. In addition, aspects of the disclosure also provide for configuring generic parameters of the BWP, which include, but not limited to, frequency location, bandwidth, subcarrier spacing (SCS), and cyclic prefix (CP). Some aspects of the present disclosure may support a reinterpretation of generic parameters of a BWP, for example which may be configured for the RRC_CONNECTED state, to be used in the RRC_INACTIVE state. Some aspects of the present disclosure are directed to implicit DL BWP switching in the RRC_INACTIVE state where no BWP identifier (ID) indication is needed as part of the switching mechanism.

Method and device for using uplink bandwidth part for radio resource control inactive state uplink data communications

A reference signaling scheme is provided that is based on the use of a Zadoff Chu sequence with cyclic repetition, optionally code division multiplexing precoding, together with frequency domain spectral shaping (FDSS). A specific pulse shape design for the FDSS part of the reference signal scheme in some embodiments involves the use of a raised cosine pulse raised to the power of β. The new solution for generating reference signals has a Low peak average power ratio that matches the PAPR of SC-OQAM, good channel estimation performance, and the ability to implement CDM in the frequency domain to increase multiplexing gain.

In multi-domain modulation, also known as overlaid modulation, information is transmitted over more than one modulation domain. In such a transmission, different modulation domains are overlaid on top of each other. Signaling that is indicative of multiple modulation domains for overlaid modulation and is indicative of multiple modulation switching intervals is communicated in a wireless communication network, data modulated using the overlaid modulation is also communicated in the wireless communication network. The multiple modulation switching intervals include a respective modulation switching interval for each of the multiple modulation domains, and each respective modulation switching interval is different from other modulation switching intervals in the multiple modulation switching intervals.

Methods and apparatus for overlaid modulation

The middle subcarrier of the baseband OFDM signal of each numerology may need to be shifted appropriately with respect to other numerologies to comply with a nested grid. These shifts can be signalled to the UE with an associated overhead. Methods and systems are provided to reduce overhead for OFDM communication. Reduced overhead can translate into increased bandwidth for the system, and/or reduced power/battery consumption in the UE. A transmitter generates an OFDM signal associated with a first subcarrier spacing of a first numerology (μ), a middle subcarrier frequency of a set of usable resource blocks (RBs) of the first numerology being offset from a carrier frequency by a first offset having a value (k) in units of subcarriers, the value of the first offset being defined by a specific formula. The transmitter transmits the OFDM signal according to the first subcarrier spacing and the first offset.

Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide control signaling mechanisms to support data transmission by a user equipment (UE) that is in the RRC_INACTIVE state and, more generally, in any inactive state. Beyond simply supporting data transmission by a user equipment that is in the RRC_INACTIVE state, aspects of the present application provide mechanisms for configuring the UE for preamble transmission or sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission and for toggling between such transmissions. Aspects of the present application relate to mechanisms for enabling Timing Advance estimation, which mechanisms are not burdened with high overhead and which allow the UE to remain in the RRC_INACTIVE state.

Transmission in an inactive state

Control signaling mechanisms are provided to support data transmissions to or from a user equipment (UE) in an inactive state. In some embodiments, a UE in an inactive state receives DCI including: a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) that is specific to a group of UEs, the group of UEs including the UE; and a resource assignment for a data transmission to the UE. The data transmission is then received on a physical shared channel. In further embodiments, a UE in an inactive state receives DCI including: a CRC scrambled by a paging RNTI; and a resource assignment for a paging message to the UE. A data transmission is received by the UE in the paging message or in a further transmission that is scheduled by the paging message.

Systems and methods for data transmission in an inactive state

A method for a multicast service is provided. In this example, the method includes receiving, by a user equipment (UE), a control format including a resource allocation field from a base station (BS), the resource allocation field indicating a starting resource block (RB) index and an RB range, obtaining a set of RBs allocated for a multicast physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) or physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) based on a starting RB location and the RB range; wherein the starting RB location is associated with the starting RB index and at least one of a reference RB location or an assigned sub-band; and transmitting or receiving, by the UE, data over at least one RB of the set of RBs allocated for the multicast PDSCH or PUSCH.

Systems and methods for multicast resource allocation

Systems and methods for transmitting uplink control information, for example ACK/NACK, while in RRC_inactive state, are provided. Uplink control information is transmitted while in RRC_INACTIVE state by transmitting a sequence from a set of possible sequences to convey the uplink control information, the transmitted sequence associated with a value of the uplink control information. The sequence is asynchronously transmitted. Signalling may be used to configure a transmission resource within which to transmit the sequence, wherein the transmission resource has a time duration that is longer than a time duration to transmit the sequence. This has the effect of introducing a gap following sequence transmission that can ensure the sequence transmission does not interfere with a data transmission.

System and method for HARQ feedback in RRC inactive state

A method for determining time information is disclosed. The method includes: obtaining, by a network node, information sent by a terminal device; and determining, by the network node, at least one of the following based on the information: a first time interval between downlink scheduling and downlink data transmission, a second time interval between the downlink data transmission and a feedback message sent by the terminal device after the terminal device receives downlink data, and a third time interval between uplink scheduling and uplink data transmission, where the information may include at least one of a subcarrier spacing, an operating band, and a bandwidth that are supported by the terminal device, and further include a first smallest value and/or a second smallest value and/or a third smallest value corresponding to the at least one item.
