A computer implemented method includes receiving data from multiple devices at an edge server, transforming the data received from the multiple devices, storing the transformed data in an edge server database, performing analytics on the transformed data in the database, and selectively uploading data to a remote server via a network.

Data transformation and analytics at edge server

Performing a distributed query across a data pool includes receiving a database query at a master node or a compute pool within a database system. Based on receiving the database query, a data pool within the database system is identified. The data pool comprises a plurality of data nodes. Each data node includes a relational engine and relational storage. Each node in the data pool caches a different partition of data from an external data source in its relational storage. The database query is processed across the plurality of data nodes. Query processing includes requesting that data node perform a filter operation against its cached partition of the external data source stored in its relational storage and return any data from the partition that matches the filter operation.

Scale out data storage and query filtering using data pools

Resource use is recorded with a partitioned reference counter. The sum of all resource counter partitions is equivalent to the total references to a resource. When one resource counter partition reaches zero, it is possible that the resource should be destroyed. To determine if this is the case, all other partitions can be checked for a value of zero. If all the partitions are zero, the resource can be destroyed. Coarse grained partitioning and add/release on all partitions can be employed to avoid extra work associated with a local partition reaching zero. Further, destroying or deleting a resource can be accomplished in a manner that avoids a race condition.
