A medical training system is provided having a housing, a phantom tissue simulant surface, an insertion hole, at least one medical instrument with a tip configured to pierce the phantom tissue simulant surface, a passage, at least one sensor, and a microprocessor. The system simulate a medical training procedure and the microprocessor is configured to read and process information from each of the at least one sensor in order to provide feedback to a user.

Testing surface for advanced medical training

Embodiments relate to a laparoscopic apparatus having a first component and a second component. The first component has a first component manipulation end configured for manipulation by a user and/or a machine, a first component interface end, a first component magnet located at or near the first component interface end, and a first component actuator system including a cable. The first component actuator system is configured to transfer control movements from the first component manipulation end into moments and forces acting upon the cable. The second component has a second component working end configured for performing surgical work, a second component interface end, a second component magnet located at or near the second component interface end, and a second component actuator system configured to transfer moments and forces acting upon the cable into mechanical movements acting upon the second component working end.

Free motion laparoscopic surgical system

A Computer Vision enabled Smart Tray (CVST) is designed for use in medical training, such as for Central Venous Catheterization (CVC). The tray is configured to hold a plurality of medical instruments. A support surface supports the tray with areas that are selectively illuminable, and a sensing system is operable to sense the presence of instruments or supplies in at least some areas of the tray. Background color is used by the computer vision algorithm to distinguish between tools and the tray. In addition, the computer vision algorithm is evaluated for accuracy in tool detection.

Sensorized medical tray for advanced training

A haptic robotic training system includes a haptic robot arm, a position tracking system, a scanning surface, a monitor and a computer. The robotic arm includes a haptic feedback system and holds a custom syringe in place. The position tracking system includes a positon tracking probe shaped like an ultrasound probe and a motion tracker. The scanning surface is a soft pad made from a synthetic phantom tissue. A simulation software receives the positioning data for the syringe from the robotic arm, and for the virtual ultrasound probe from the position tracking system and generates a virtual environment which mimics an actual ultrasound image. The user receives a real time feedback in the form of a haptic feel through the robotic arm, a virtual ultrasound image on the screen, and a performance feedback on the simulation software.

Dynamic haptic robotic trainer

A haptic needle insertion simulator includes a syringe compartment having a cavity and a retractable needle at an end of the syringe compartment. The needle is operable to retract into the syringe compartment when pushed against a surface. The cavity is configured to provide a force profile felt by a user holding the simulator and simulating a realistic feeling of insertion force.
