A composition, method, and article of manufacture are disclosed. The composition is a microcapsule that includes a transparent shell encapsulating a mixture comprising light upconversion molecules. The method is a method of forming a microcapsule, which includes obtaining light upconversion molecules, forming an emulsion of the light upconversion molecules and a shell formation solution, and encapsulating the light upconversion molecules in a transparent shell. The article of manufacture comprises the microcapsule.

A process, a composition, and an article of manufacture are disclosed. The process includes generating a cyclic monoterpene derivative. The generating includes oxidizing a cyclic monoterpene to generate a ketone derivative and oxidizing the ketone derivative to form a lactone derivative. The composition and the article of manufacture include a polymer having monomer repeat units derived from a lactone derivative of a cyclic monoterpene.

Biobased materials derived from cyclic monoterpenes

The composition and the article of manufacture include a silica particle and light upconversion molecules incorporated into the silica particle. The flame retardant levulinic acid-based compound has variable moieties, which include phenyl-substituted and/or R functionalized flame retardant groups. The process for forming the flame retardant polymer includes forming a phosphorus-based flame retardant molecule, forming a levulinic acid derivative, chemically reacting the phosphorus-based flame retardant molecule and the levulinic acid derivative to form a flame retardant levulinic acid-based compound, and incorporating the levulinic acid-based flame retardant compound into a polymer to form the flame retardant polymer.

Methods of fabricating tamper-respondent sensors with random three-dimensional security patterns are provided. The methods include establishing a security circuit pattern for a security circuit of a tamper-respondent sensor to enclose, at least in part, one or more components of a circuit board within a secure volume. The establishing includes determining in three-dimensions boundaries for the security circuit of the tamper-respondent sensor. The boundaries define a sensor volume which the security circuit is to fill in three dimensions. The establishing also includes generating at least one trace configuration for the security circuit pattern. The at least one trace configuration defines a random, three-dimensional security pattern to fill the sensor volume, and the at least one trace configuration establishes, at least in part, the security circuit pattern. The process further includes fabricating the tamper-respondent sensor based on the established security circuit pattern.

A thermal interface material (TIM) includes a modified release layer having an organosilane-coated surface covalently bound to a TIM formulation layer. The modified release layer may be formed by applying an organosilane (e.g., vinyltriethoxysilane) to the surface of a thermally conductive release layer (e.g., aluminum foil). The organosilane reacts with hydroxyl groups on the surface of the thermally conductive release layer. The TIM formulation layer may be formed by applying a TIM formulation (e.g., a graphite TIM formulation) containing an unsaturated monomer (e.g., methyl acrylate) to the organosilane-coated surface of the modified release layer, and then curing the TIM formulation so that the unsaturated monomer of the TIM formulation reacts with the organosilane-coated surface of the modified release layer.
