Compounds having hindered amine and oxyalkyl amine light stabilizers can mitigate the adverse effects of actinic radiation, such as visible and ultraviolet light, in particular on substrates such as glass or ceramic substrates. Sterically hindered amine and oxyalkyl amine light stabilizers

Articles having poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and silica nanoparticle multilayer coatings are provided. More specifically, the articles include a substrate and a multilayer coating attached to the substrate. The multilayer coating includes a silica layer that is the outermost layer, the silica layer containing acid-sintered interconnected silica nanoparticles arranged to form a continuous three-dimensional porous network. The multilayer coating also includes a PVA layer disposed between a surface of the substrate and the outermost silica layer. The PVA and silica nanoparticle coatings can be used on a large variety of substrates and tend to be resistant to impacts, scratches, wet abrasions, soil and fog.

R&#x2033; and R&#x2033;' are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. Y is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, trialkylsilyl, and a counter cation. Methods of treating a surface using these compositions and articles with a surface in contact with these compositions are provided. Methods of making these compositions are also provided.

A latex paint composition comprises (a) a polymer having interpolymerized units that comprise units derived from styrene, methyl styrene, vinyl, or combinations thereof and units derived from one or more acrylates, methacrylates, acrylonitrile, or combinations thereof, (b) hiding pigment, (c) non-cellulosic thickener, and (d) at least about 0.05 weight per volume percent fluorochemical acrylic polymer additive comprising (1) at least one perfluoroalkyl moiety selected from the group consisting of heptafluoropropanesulfonamido, nonafluorobutanesulfonamido, undecafluoropentanesulfonamido, and tridecafluorohexanesulfonamido moieties and (2) at least one polyoxyalkylene block comprising at least one alkyleneoxy moiety. Latex paint compositions and coatings

A latex paint composition comprises (a) a polymer having interpolymerized units that comprise units derived from styrene, methyl styrene, vinyl, or combinations thereof and units derived from one or more acrylates, methacrylates, acrylonitrile, or combinations thereof; (b) hiding pigment; (c) non-cellulosic thickener; and (d) a polyfluorourethane additive that is the reaction product of (i) at least one isocyanate reactant, (ii) at least one fluorochemical compound containing at least one Zerewitinoff hydrogen in an amount sufficient to react with about 5% to about 80% of the isocyanate groups, and (iii) at least one non-fluorinated compound; wherein said latex paint composition has a pigment volume concentration of at least 20% and less than its critical pigment volume concentration.
