A system for determining orientation of a distal end of a catheter. The system includes a radial ultrasound system configured to generate images based on data received from a radial ultrasound probe. The system also includes a display device to present the generated images, a medical device, and a catheter system. The catheter system includes a flexible shaft having a first lumen configured to receive the radial ultrasound probe and a second lumen configured to receive the medical device, a cap portion having a longitudinal axis, and at least one orientation pin. The cap portion includes a third lumen configured to align with the first lumen, a fourth lumen configured to align with the second lumen, an exit port, and a ramp disposed between the fourth lumen and the exit port.

Orientation pins for device using radial ultrasound

An apparatus and system for effective real-time visualization of medical device usage. The apparatus includes a handle that receives a medical device and an imaging component, a flexible shaft includes at least two lumen and is attached to the handle and an end cap attached to the flexible shaft. The end cap includes a first lumen, an exit port located at a proximal end of the end cap, a first slot, and a second slot. The first lumen of the end cap receives the imaging component from the flexible shaft. The exit port receives the medical device from the flexible shaft. The slots are located longitudinally on an outer surface of the end cap at a distal section of the end cap. The first lumen of the end cap opens into a trough for better tissue connectivity.

Tip assemblies for real-time sampling system

A device and system for allowing real-time viewing of a procedure beyond a distal end of an endoscope. An exemplary device includes a sheath that has at least two lumens and a handle. The handle includes a connector that connects to a proximal end of an endoscope, a shaft portion that rotatably connects to a proximal end of the connector and a manifold that is slidably received by the shaft portion. The manifold connects to the sheath and allows for insertion of a radial ultrasound probe and a medical tool into the sheath. A stopping device in the manifold avoids accidental needle deployment.

Real-time sampling system

An elongated access device used in a medical system. The elongated access device slidably receives a medical tool and an ultrasound probe. The elongated access device includes a sheath and an intraluminal tip attached to the distal end of the sheath. The intraluminal tip includes ramp and nose donuts being spaced apart from one another and configured to be attached to one or more elongated sleeves. One or more orientation pins are engaged with the respective ramp and nose donuts and may be anchored within the sheath. The medical tool is engaged with a ramp formed in the ramp donut or a ramp received within the ramp donut. The ultrasound probe is configured to engage with the intraluminal tip so as to ensure that the medical tool directionality is oriented toward a target during a procedure.

Real-time sampling device

Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for providing an atraumatic sheath tip. Various disclosed embodiments seek to help reduce or avoid unnecessary tissue damage upon a sheath being extended to convey an elongated instrument for sampling or treatment. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a deformable sheath tip configured to be positioned at a distal end of a sheath. The sheath defines therein a lumen configured to convey an elongated instrument. The sheath tip has a base end disposable at the distal end of the sheath and a contact end. The sheath tip has a first column strength along an axis of the sheath tip that is less than a second column strength of the sheath and a first degree of deformability that is greater than a second degree of deformability of the sheath.

Compliant, atraumatic sheath tips

A reusable rotating ultrasound capsule for mounting to a distal end of a catheter. An exemplary device includes a motor compartment having a proximal face and a distal end. A sensor compartment includes a cap that seals with the motor compartment. A motor located within the motor compartment includes a drive component and a shaft rotatably coupled to the drive component and extending distally from the motor compartment into the sensor compartment. The shaft includes an ultrasound transducer. A plurality of electrical contacts are mounted on the proximal face. At least two of the electrical contacts are electrically coupled to the motor. A rotational electrical coupler includes a rotational component mechanically coupled to the shaft and electrically coupled to the ultrasound transducer and a stationary component mechanically coupled to the motor compartment and electrically coupled to one or more of the plurality of electrical contacts.

Radial ultrasound capsule and system

A catheter and catheter system includes a first lumen and a second lumen adjacent to the first lumen. The catheter occupies an arc around the first lumen, wherein the arc is greater than 180° and less than 360°, thus creating a lengthwise opening to the first lumen. The catheter material surrounds the second lumen in a cross-sectional dimension. Prior to a procedure, a sampling device is introduced into the second lumen prior and the probe is snapped into the first lumen prior to insertion into an endoscope.

Jacket flexible needle assembly

Disclosed embodiments include flexible tube assemblies, flexible needle assemblies, systems, methods of fabricating a flexible tube, and methods of fabricating a flexible needle. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, a flexible tube assembly includes: a flexible tube having a proximal end with a proximal strain relief section and a distal end with a distal strain relief section, the proximal strain relief section being located between the proximal end and the distal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section being located between the distal end and the proximal strain relief section, the distal end defining an opening therein, at least a portion of at least one of the proximal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section defining therein a spiral cut with a continuously variable pitch; and tubing disposed in an airtight manner over an exterior surface of the flexible tube at least the portion of the at least one of the proximal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section defining therein the spiral cut with a continuously variable pitch.

Variable pitch flexible needle

A system for determining orientation of a distal end of a catheter. The system includes a flexible shaft having a first lumen, a second lumen, a third lumen, a fourth lumen, a first orientation pin and a second orientation pin. The first orientation pin is received within the third lumen and the second orientation pin is received within the fourth lumen. The flexible shaft includes a cross-sectional dimension and the third lumen and the fourth lumen include longitudinal axes that are located on the same half of the cross-sectional dimension of the catheter. The second lumen includes an exit port for exposing at least a portion of the second lumen of the cap portion and a ramp. A distal end of the flexible shaft is made of material permeable to ultrasound signals and the orientation pins include one or more materials that are non-permeable to ultrasound signals.

A needle system includes a needle, a needle handle coupled to a proximal end of the needle and a needle stiffening device. The needle stiffening device includes a first handle portion, a second handle portion, a stylet having a distal end component and a shaft component, a fixing component configured to fix a proximal end of the stylet to the first handle portion, a hollow component configured to slidably receive the shaft component of the stylet and a compression device having a proximal end that makes contact with a distal end of the hollow component and a distal end that makes contact with the distal end component of the stylet. A distal end of the second handle portion makes contact with a proximal end of the hollow component within the first handle portion.

System and methods for controlling stiffness of a needle or catheter

An apparatus includes a harness, at least one brace that may include an articulated frame coupled to the harness, a pre-tensioning device, a lower assembly coupled to the articulated frame, and an energy-transforming mechanism that may be adjusted to a user and may assist with the user's gait. The energy-transforming mechanism may include an energy storage device coupled to the pre-tensioning device via a superior exotendon and coupled to the lower assembly via an inferior exotendon.
