Provided is a protective cover system including a first protective cover and a second protective cover, both include a polymer and being pre-formed into a curved shape so as to accommodate at least a part of a wind turbine blade to be protected, each of the first and second protective covers has a tip end and a root end, wherein the first protective cover includes a first overlap portion at the root end, and the second protective cover includes a second overlap portion at the tip end, wherein the shape of the first overlap portion is substantially complementary to the shape of the second overlap portion such that when overlapping the first and second overlap portions, the resulting cross section of the overlapped overlap portions substantially corresponds to the cross sections of the first or second protective covers outside the overlap portions.

Provided is a method of applying a protective layer to an outer surfaced of a wind turbine rotor blade, which method includes the steps of preparing a protective layer for application to the outer surface of the rotor blade; providing an air exit channel between the rotor blade and the protective layer; attaching the protective layer to the outer surface of the rotor blade; and extracting air through the air exit channel. The negative mold includes a support structure and a plurality of foam blocks, which are mounted to the support structure in such a manner, that a common surface contour of the plurality of foam blocks defines an outer surface of the component, which is to be casted. Each foam block of the plurality of foam blocks is taken from a predetermined number of different types of foam blocks, each type of foam block is defined by a predetermined foam block size and foam block shape. A mold for manufacturing a component is provided. A mold has a mold surface representing a negative image of the component. The mold has openings in the mold surface. Flow channels extending from the openings in the mold surface and are connectable to a suction device. Further, the mold has a periphery delimiting the mold surface. A bag is fixed to the periphery of the mold. The bag is inflated to a pressure level above ambient pressure. The pressure is released from the bag while sucking the bag to the mold surface using the suction device. Fabrics are layered onto the bag while the bag is kept sucked to the mold surface. Resin is introduced into the fabrics and then the resin is cured.

According to the method an unmanned aerial vehicle is guided along a predetermined flight path. The flight-path is chosen in a way that high resolution images of the surrounding of a potential wind turbine site are gathered by the unmanned aerial vehicle. The images are used to obtain an actual digital surface model of the surrounding of the potential wind turbine site. The potential wind turbine site is evaluated based on the actual digital surface model to determine, if the potential wind turbine site is an optimum wind turbine site.

Method to determine a site for a wind turbine

A winglet for a blade of a wind turbine is disclosed. The winglet contains a core with a predetermined water absorption-rate to reduce or even avoid the absorption of water in the core. This may be achieved via different variations on the core material and/or core cover material including composition, density and thickness.
