An eyeglass headphone with a frame that is constructed and arranged to be carried by the head of a wearer, the frame comprising a bridge that is adapted to be supported by the wearer's nose, and a left temple and a right temple that extend rearwardly from the bridge, toward the left and right ears of the wearer, respectively, and a dipole loudspeaker built into the frame, where the dipole loudspeaker comprises a driver that emits front-side acoustic radiation from its front side, and emits rear-side acoustic radiation from its rear side. The frame comprises at least first and second sound-emitting openings, wherein the first sound-emitting opening is constructed and arranged to emit front-side acoustic radiation and the second sound-emitting opening is constructed and arranged to emit rear-side acoustic radiation.

Eyeglass headphones

A microphone assembly for providing improved directivity at high and low frequencies is disclosed. The microphone assemblies comprise two waveguides each having a microphone, a high-frequency port, and a low-frequency port. The two waveguides are arranged adjacent to each other so that the two low-frequency ports are arranged at a first distance apart from each other and so that the two high-frequency ports are arranged at a second distance apart from each other. The microphone assemblies may comprise two additional waveguides of different length than the first two waveguides, where the two additional waveguides also have low frequency ports and high frequency ports. When the four waveguides are arranged adjacent to each other, all the low-frequency ports are at one distance from each other and all the high-frequency ports are at another distance from each other.

Variable port microphone

A loudspeaker includes a first electro-acoustic driver that creates sound waves when operated, and a housing. A first baffle is coupled to the housing and the first electro-acoustic driver. A first speaker grille covers the first electro-acoustic driver. A first gasket is disposed between the first baffle and the first speaker grille. The first gasket comprises a first set of energy directors to reduce buzzing between the first gasket and the first baffle.

Portable loudspeaker

An acoustic transducer with an acoustic element that emits or receives front-side acoustic radiation from its front side, and emits or receives rear-side acoustic radiation from its rear side. A housing directs the front-side acoustic radiation and the rear-side acoustic radiation. A plurality of sound-conducting vents in the housing allow sound to enter the housing or allow sound to leave the housing. A distance between vents defines an effective length of an acoustic dipole. The housing and its vents are constructed and arranged such that the effective dipole length is frequency dependent.

Acoustic transducer

An audio device with an acoustic radiator that emits acoustic radiation from a first side, a housing that defines an acoustic cavity that receives the acoustic radiation emitted from the first side of the acoustic radiator, and first and second sound-emitting outlets in the housing and acoustically coupled to the acoustic cavity such that the outlets emit sound from the acoustic cavity. The second sound-emitting outlet has a greater equivalent acoustic impedance than the first sound-emitting outlet.

Audio device

A waveguide for conducting sound that is generated by a loudspeaker that is acoustically coupled to the waveguide. There is a duct with an external wall, an interior opening circumscribed by the wall, and an outlet, and an air-adsorbent structure coupled to an inside of the external wall of the duct such that the air adsorbent structure lines at least a portion of the wall. The apparent volume ratio of the air adsorbent structure is at least about 1.5.

Waveguide

A loudspeaker comprising includes an enclosure, a driver element located within the enclosure and including a cone diaphragm, a first cavity defined by a first cavity wall and the cone diaphragm, the first cavity extending from the cone diaphragm and having a first opening which has an area less than an area of the cone diaphragm, an exit element extending from the first opening of the first cavity and acoustically coupling the first cavity to an environment outside of the enclosure, a second cavity, defined by a second cavity wall within the enclosure extending from a second opening in the first cavity, and an acoustic element in the second opening acoustically coupling the second cavity to the first cavity. The second cavity is not otherwise acoustically coupled to the environment outside of the enclosure.

Acoustic filter

In an aspect, in general, a loudspeaker element includes an enclosure, a cone diaphragm of a driver element located within the enclosure, a first cavity wall extending from the cone diaphragm of the driver element to a throat opening which has an area less than an area of the cone diaphragm and forming a first cavity within the enclosure, an exit element extending from the throat opening to an environment outside of the enclosure, and an impedance compensation element extending from the first cavity wall, the impedance compensation element including a second cavity wall which forms a second cavity within the enclosure and a resistance element separating the second cavity from the first cavity.

A suspension element for mechanically coupling an acoustic diaphragm to a stationary element. The suspension element is characterized by a total compliance. The total compliance includes a shear compliance and a beam compliance. The beam compliance is not significantly larger than the shear compliance.

Acoustic diaphragm suspending

A speaker includes a housing and four substantially similar electro-acoustic drivers secured inside the housing. The drivers are driven by substantially the same audio signal and are arranged such that the net mechanical vibrational force between the drivers and the housing is substantially zero. Four substantially similar passive radiators are secured inside the housing and driven by acoustic energy from the four drivers. The passive radiators are arranged such that the net mechanical vibrational force between the passive radiators and the housing is substantially zero.

Speaker

A three dimensional acoustic passive radiator diaphragm. A diaphragm a three dimensional volume. An acoustic driver radiates pressure waves into the three dimensional volume to cause the diaphragm to expand and contract. The three dimensional passive radiator may include a core of a porous, compressible material.
