An electrical power supply system includes a freestanding primary electrical unit, a non-freestanding accessory unit, and an accessory unit support system. The primary electrical unit includes a freestanding cabinet containing a primary electrical component. The accessory unit includes a non-freestanding accessory cabinet containing an accessory electrical component. The accessory unit support system is configured to couple the accessory cabinet to the primary cabinet such that the accessory unit is thereby structurally supported by the primary electrical unit. The accessory cabinet can be selectively decoupled from the primary cabinet and alternatively structurally supported using the accessory support system.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system includes an AC input configured to be coupled to an AC power source, an AC output configured to be coupled to a load, a power conversion circuit comprising a first converter circuit configured to receive power from a variably available power source, a second converter circuit coupled to the AC output, a DC link coupling the first and second converter circuits, and a switching circuit, e.g., a bypass circuit, configured to selectively couple and decouple the AC input and the AC output. The UPS system further includes a control circuit operatively associated with the power conversion circuit and the switching circuit and configured to cause concurrent transfer of power to a load at the AC output from the AC power source and the variably available power source via the switching circuit and the power conversion circuit, respectively.

Uninterruptible power supply systems and methods supporting high-efficiency bypassed operation with a variably available power source

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) of a UPS system including a plurality of UPSs connected in parallel at a load bus and configured to provide power thereto from respective batteries of a plurality of batteries is operated such that a difference between a variable, for example, battery voltage, indicative of battery capacity for a battery associated with the subject UPS and an average value of the variable for the plurality of batteries is determined and a power flow between the subject UPS and the load bus is controlled responsive to the determined difference. Controlling a power flow between the subject UPS and the load bus responsive to the determined difference may include, for example, controlling a phase of an inverter of the subject UPS responsive to the determined difference.

Battery load allocation in parallel-connected uninterruptible power supply systems

A power supply apparatus includes first and second parallel-connected uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), each including an AC/DC converter circuit and a DC/AC converter circuit having an input coupled to an output of the AC/DC converter circuit by a DC link, inputs of the AC/DC converter circuits of the first and second UPSs connected in common to an AC source and outputs of the DC/AC converter circuits of the first and second UPSs connected in common to a load. The first and second UPSs are configured to support a test mode wherein the first UPS is test loaded by transferring power from the output of the DC/AC converter circuit of the first UPS to the output of the DC/AC converter circuit of the second UPS. The first UPS may be configured to provide power to the load concurrent with test loading by the second UPS.

Self-testing power supply apparatus, methods and computer program products

Paralleled uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) including respective pulse-width modulation (PWM) power converter circuits coupled in common to an AC load bus have PWM cycles that are synchronized. In particular, sampling of control inputs of the PWM power converter circuits may be synchronized, such that, for example, sampling of control inputs to the PWM power converter circuits occurs at substantially the same time for each of the PWM power converter circuits. A common phase reference corresponding to an AC voltage phase for the AC load bus may be provided, and the PWM cycles of each of the power converter circuits may synchronized, e.g., phase locked, to the common phase reference. More particularly, the respective PWM cycles of the UPSs may be phase locked to phase locked sinusoidal reference signals generated at each of the UPSs. Sampling for other control functions may also be synchronized to the PWM cycles.

AC power supply apparatus, methods and computer program products using PWM synchronization

An apparatus can include a fault condition detector configured to detect a fault condition in an electrical system, a delta d-q power value generator configured to generate a delta d-q power value temporally corresponding to the detected fault condition, and a characterizer circuit configured to characterize the fault condition relative to the apparatus responsive to the delta d-q power value. Methods can include detecting a fault condition in an electrical system and determining changes in d-q component voltage and current temporally corresponding to the detected fault condition. Such methods can further include characterizing the fault condition responsive to the determined first and second changes and controlling an apparatus based on characterizing the fault condition.

Status of a bypass source of parallel-connected UPSs is determined from a load share when a loading of the parallel-connected UPSs meets a predetermined criterion. Status of a bypass source of the parallel-connected UPSs is determined from a bypass source voltage when the loading of the parallel-connected UPSs fails to meet the predetermined criterion. The loading may include an aggregate loading, and failure of a bypass source of a UPS may be identified responsive to detecting that a load share of the UPS is less than a predetermined proportion of the aggregate loading. Alternatively, failure of the bypass source may be identified by detecting that a bypass voltage fails to meet a predetermined criterion. Bypass circuits of the UPSs may be controlled responsive to a load share and/or a bypass source voltage.
