An exhaust system component comprises a housing including an inner surface having a first longitudinal axis, a core positioned within the housing and including an outer surface circumferentially extending about a second longitudinal axis offset from the first axis, and a mat positioned within the housing and compressed between the core and the housing. The mat is wrapped about an outer surface of the core more than one revolution such that a first circumferentially extending zone exists where the mat is x layers thick and a second circumferentially extending zone exists where the mat is x+1 layers thick. The second longitudinal axis is offset from the first longitudinal axis in a direction toward the first circumferentially extending zone.

Exhaust system component with multi-layer support mat

A mixer comprises a first subassembly including a first holder fixed to a first mixing element. The first holder includes a base interconnecting a first sidewall with a spaced apart second sidewall. The first mixing element includes a base interconnecting first and second spaced apart mounting flanges that are fixed to the first and second sidewalls. A second subassembly includes a second holder fixed to a second mixing element. The second holder includes a base interconnecting a third sidewall with a spaced apart fourth sidewall. The second mixing element including a base interconnecting third and fourth spaced apart mounting flanges that are fixed to the third and fourth sidewalls. Distal ends of the first sidewall and the third sidewall are fixed to one another. Distal ends of the second sidewall and the fourth sidewall are fixed to one another.

Two-part two-stage mixer

A system for mounting a catalytic converter of an exhaust system to an internal combustion engine includes a bracket adapted to fix the catalytic converter to the engine. A strap is adapted to circumferentially extend about a portion of the catalytic converter and clamp the catalytic converter to the bracket. The bracket includes a seat, a mounting pad and a compliant portion interconnecting the seat and the mounting pad. The seat supports a portion of the catalytic converter opposite the strap. The compliant portion includes a slot extending adjacent to the seat to reduce the stiffness of the bracket and allow the bracket to deflect during thermal expansion of the catalytic converter.
