A dynamic rebalancer operates in a server cluster independently of routers directing traffic to the servers in the cluster. An analysis component uses configuration information and statistics information to determine which session, if any, should be moved. A filter component receives transfer instructions from the analysis component. When the filter component receives transfer instructions from the analysis component, the filter component adds a redirect command to the client request. The filter component continually redirects client requests within the session to the new server until the client receives the redirect command and begins to send client requests to the new server.

Components are dynamically associated in a multi-tier application to different layers of a corresponding multi-tier application infrastructure. This includes defining, in a memory of a host computing system, a pattern that has an inventory of components of a multi-tier application. Each of the components are associated with a corresponding tier label for an n-tier architecture and the pattern is loaded into a pattern engine. The pattern engine deploys each component of the pattern to a layer of the n-tier architecture corresponding to a tier label associated with the component.

The present invention relates to a non-intrusive method and apparatus for automatically dispatching security rules in a cloud environment. Shared web modules are stored in an archive data structure for use with web applications. A runtime component selectively locates these shared web modules and logically merges them with the web modules of the web application according to precedence or priority of the shared web modules as designated by the shared web module designation file. A method, apparatus and computer instructions are disclosed for maintaining the compatibility of a multiple nodes in a distributed systems management environment with multiple configuration settings, by transforming the configuration data stored in the master repository (one possible realization is where XML documents contain the configuration data) from one version of the product to a previous version of the product. For multiple versions of the systems management environment, a transformation pipeline process (one possible realization of such a process may utilize XSLT) can be used by a 'master' node to transform the configuration data multiple times for each version of the environment, until the configuration data has the format of the intended recipient 'slave' node. Also, by performing the transformation process on the &#x201c;master&#x201d; side of the computing environment, &#x201c;slave&#x201d; nodes with older version configuration settings can continue to operate without having to upgrade their software applications in this regard.

The invention, which may be a kind of annotations processor, detects zero or more tagsets turned on or selected at runtime. The annotations adapter reads an abstract unit from a java file, and if an annotation of the abstract unit has a tag that is among the tags of a turned on tagset, then the annotations adapter may generate an artifact showing the influence of the annotation. Such a process may continue until there are no more abstract units to process. Comments or annotations that fail to be tagged with a tag of a selected tagset may, nevertheless, be mentioned with a kind of 'place-holder' indicating that such comments exist.

Content aggregation is used to build administration consoles. Preferred embodiments enable providing a solution-based approach to information technology ('IT') administration, whereby content can be flexibly arranged to provide a content view that is adapted for the IT solution deployed in a particular IT environment. In preferred embodiments, portal technology is used for the aggregation framework, and portlets are used for creating content. Alternatively, other approaches such as struts and tiles may be used. Preferred embodiments deploy an administration console as a Web-accessible application, and this console consolidates the administration interfaces for an arbitrary set of management operations, including administration of an arbitrary collection of hardware and/or software resources. Roles/permissions may be used when rendering content for the console, thereby customizing a view to individual end users (or user groups).

In accordance with the invention, cookies are automatically synchronized across multiple client machines on a network. A user registers all of the client machines for which he desires cookie synchronization under a single account with a cookie synchronization server. Each of the client machines is equipped with software that monitors all changes made to cookies at that machine and sends notifications of the changes to the cookie synchronization server. The cookie synchronization server stores the cookie change information in a log and sends it out to the other client machine in the account, which then update their cookies accordingly.
