Methods and apparatus for automatically determining a diagnostic test result from a lateral flow assay are provided. The method comprises receiving at least one image of the lateral flow assay, identifying, with a hardware computer processor, a view window in the at least one image, determining, within the identified view window, a first signal strength for a control line and a second signal strength for one or more test lines, determining the diagnostic test result based on the first signal strength and/or the second signal strength, and outputting an indication of the diagnostic test result.

Methods and apparatus for automatically reading a lateral flow assay

The disclosure features methods of analyzing a fluid extracted from a reservoir, the methods including introducing a first composition featuring a first complexing agent into a reservoir at a first location, extracting a fluid from the reservoir at a second location different from the first location, combining the fluid with a second composition featuring a concentration of a lanthanide ion to form a third composition featuring a concentration of a complex formed by the first complexing agent and the lanthanide ion, exposing a quantity of the complex to electromagnetic radiation for a first time period ending at a time t, detecting fluorescence emission from the quantity of the complex for a second time period starting at a time t>t, where t−tis greater than 2 microseconds, and determining information about a fluid flow path between the first location and the second location.

Tracers for petroleum reservoirs

Compositions, articles, systems, and methods for sensing and/or authentication using luminescence imaging are generally provided. In some embodiments, an article (or packaging material of an article) is associated with an emissive material comprising an emissive species (e.g., a luminescent species). In some cases, the emissive species has an emission lifetime of at least 10 nanoseconds (ns). In some cases, a characteristic of an article (e.g., identity, authenticity, age, quality, purity) may be determined by obtaining an image (or series of images) comprising time-dependent information related to an emissive species. In certain instances, for example, the emission lifetime of an emissive species may be determined from an image (or series of images). Since the emission lifetime of an emissive species may be modified by a number of factors, including but not limited to binding or proximity to other molecules (e.g., water, oxygen, carbon monoxide), temperature, pH, and radiation exposure, the measured length of the emission lifetime (e.g., the observed emission lifetime, the emission time period) may provide information regarding a characteristic of an associated article. In some instances, an emissive material comprising one or more emissive species may be used to identify and/or authenticate an associated article.

Luminescence imaging for sensing and/or authentication

Devices for chemical analysis include a first separation element formed on the substrate, the first separation element having a wicking surface that separates water from hydrocarbons in a fluid sample, a hydrophobic barrier at least partially surrounding the first separation element, a second separation element fluidically connected the first separation element, the second separation element configured to trap salts and organic matter present in the fluid sample, and a detection element fluidically connected to the second separation element, the detection element having a surface that binds with one or more analytes that may be present in the fluid sample and thereby emits a signal that is capable of being optically detected by a detector. Methods include providing such a device for chemical analysis, placing the fluid sample on the first separation element, and detecting the signal emitted by the detection element.

Embodiments described herein generally relate to: sensing and/or authentication using luminescence imaging; diagnostic assays, systems, and related methods; temporal thermal sensing and related methods; and/or to emissive species, such as those excitable by white light, and related systems and methods.

Temporal sensing and related methods

Methods of manufacturing multi-material fibers having one or more electrically-connectable devices disposed therein are described. In certain instances, the methods include the steps of: positioning the electrically-connectable device(s) within a corresponding pocket provided in a preform material; positioning a first electrical conductor longitudinally within a first conduit provided in the preform material; and drawing the multi-material fiber by causing the preform material to flow, such that the first electrical conductor extends within the multi-material fiber along a longitudinal axis thereof and makes an electrical contact with a first electrode located on each electrically-connectable device. A metallurgical bond may be formed between the first electrical conductor and the first electrode while drawing the multi-material fiber and/or, after drawing the multi-material fiber, the first electrical conductor may be located substantially along a neutral axis of the multi-material fiber.
